This search engine is for my personal use and the educational use of my students. You may obtain permission to access the ASPR from the Oxford Text Archives AHDS. You may use this engine for educational purposes only. Special Characters:
Exact searches only here (i.e., literal searches). No parts of words: a search for "cynn" will not return "manncynn," for example. For more advanced searches, use the search engine below and limit your search to files 1 to 5 (the ASPR).

Search CORPUS | |
Click to search the Corpus of Old English.Grep is a utility that permits advanced searches of large text files. (Tutorial here and here [from UNIX manual].) Some of the more common commands are listed on the next page, and a few examples are offered. Please do not experiment wildly, as a poorly constructed search may monopolize the server (do not, for example, search for the letter "a").
Spelling variants will soon be added to the search capabilities. For the moment, the Dictionary of Old English offers an on-line variant search: http://doetools.doe.utoronto.ca/varphrase.html . Please contact me with any difficulties. Due to the size of the Corpus, I have limited search results to 100 items. |
