Third Translation. 1) Choose a significant passage in the Pardoner's Prologue--three to five lines in length. 2) Find three published translations (for example, in literary anthologies). 3) Translate the passage yourself, then compare your translation to the published versions: what are the differences in syntax and vocabulary? How do these affect the tone? Which implications in the original Middle English are being lost/translated in the various versions, and how do you account for them in yours?
