• Runes. Translate as much as you can of the Old English Rune Poem (and a decent translation of some of the poem).
• If we have time: the Distichs of Cato.
• Review for midterm. Bring in questions. Write  paper OR take the exam.

 

W 23 Oct

• Translate as much as you can of Deor. (Another translation with sound file.)
• Review for midterm. Bring in questions. Write  paper OR take the exam.

 

F 25 Oct

• MIDTERM exam today. You can use your notes and the textbook! No computers etc.
• If you wrote a paper, do not come to class!!!
• MIDTERM paper/project due today.

Here is a terrific, free edition and translation of the Poetic Edda by Edward Pettit. In it you will find much of the mythology of the Norse gods.
