Soil: Deep, well-drained, medium-textured sandy loam (or loam soil) is best Land preparation: Preparing soil involves plowing, deep chiseling, discing, smoothing and listing. Irrigate the field 2 to 4 weeks before planting. Fertilizers: Nutrients normally used on chiles are nitrogen and phosphorus depend on soil test. Usually 100 lb urea, 40 lb P2O5, and 60 lb K2O per acre.
