StoSS landscape urbanism
by Beth Fenstermacher

Evaluation

The goals and ambitions of StoSS are encouraging examples of how landscape architects can apply sustainable technology through a framework of landscape urbanism. The company is still relatively new; therefore, the long term success of their projects is not known. However, through increasing public awareness through design and providing public education, I feel the projects are already successful. They are educating the public on the importance of reducing strain on water supplies and on public sewers, two very important urban issues that all municipalities face now and will be increasingly so in the future.

Through their designs, StoSS also looks at the importance of green corridors, hierarchy of scales, transdisciplinary approaches, cooperative efforts, public education and awareness, historical continuity, and local variety and diversity.
