Storm Damage Assessment Protocol

After the 1998 Ice Storms in Northern New England and New York it became apparent that a standardized method for estimating damage to trees growing in cities and towns was needed, in order to assemble accurate estimates for recovery and restoration efforts.  How to collect reliable and accurate information within 12-24 hours after a storm event is the intent of the method that is outlined in the following article that appeared in the July 2000 issue of Tree Care Industry, published by the National Arborist Association.

This draft system is currently being field tested in New England and New York.  Once finalized, this systematic estimating system will be delivered to interested communities and contractors via training sessions in the Northeastern states and via the internet.
