America Reads / America Counts:

This is an on-going position throughout the Academic year.

We are looking to hire undergraduate students as tutors in schools, daycare centers, and after school programs throughout the Pioneer Valley providing academic support to individual or small groups of students. America Reads / America counts is a national non-profit program that encourages the development of reading, writing, and math skills in students in ore-K to 6th grade. Tutors must have Federal Work-study to be paid for their work; but non work-study students are welcome to volunteer.

American Reads/ America Counts is a great way to build resume experience, earn extra money, and make a difference in a child’s life. Tutors earn $8/hr to start, with yearly salary raises for returning students. Positions are available at many different job sites, many on PVTA bus lines. Bus Drivers:

UMass Transit Service is seeking Bus Operators. Operators will service the Five-College area, as well as several outreach areas. This is a student employee position in the Systems Department of University Health Services for the Spring 2012 semester.  This position provides PC Support services to the UHS user community under the direction of UHS’ full-time support staff. This position is for a UMass undergraduate student in good academic standing.  The ideal candidate will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in either Computer Science or EC&E or has proven experience providing PC Support in an academic or business environment. 

Responsibilities:

-         Provide Help Desk coverage – receiving, documenting, and triaging computer related issues via multiple channels (in person, by telephone or via email).

-         Resolve issues of an appropriate level that are reported to the UHS Help Desk or assigned by UHS Systems staff members.  Escalate issues to other UHS staff as appropriate.

-         Assist with the installation, configuration, and roll-out of UHS Windows based computers to end users, both through manual installation/configuration and through the utilization of ghosting/imaging technology.

-         Provide basic system administration support for the creation/deletion of user accounts, routine security changes, etc…

-         Maintain appropriate levels of documentation, particularly as it pertains to logging work assigned/completed, managing hardware inventories, and communicating issues and issue resolution details to UHS Systems staff.

Job Requirements:

-         Experience, aptitude, and interest in the areas of computer hardware and software, networking, security, and support.

-         Excellent customer service skills – patience, attention to detail, helpful attitude, friendly yet professional demeanor, interest in training users, etc…

Uniformed Police Cadet I for Fall/Spring 2011/2012 - UMass Police Department

The UMass Police Department is seeking dynamic students to work as Police Cadet I's. Incumbents in this position provide additional security within the busiest Residence Halls on campus by confirming resident’s identification and registering their guests, keeping order, and enforcing University & Housing regulations. Cadets are responsible for reporting safety concerns, assisting Residence Hall Security & ResLife staff, and notifying emergency services as needed. No previous security/police experience is necessary, however, we are seeking energetic, outgoing people who enjoy working in a dynamic environment with other people (this is not a spectator position). The Position requires standing inside Residence Halls for eight hours or more; shifts are 7pm to 3am on Thursdays and 8pm-4am on Fridays & Saturdays. The Port-Phelps-Huntington Museum is an active Historic Site in Hadley, MA which tells the story of a New England family and their household over two centuries.

Position: Museum Assistant – 2 positions Available.

Dates: May 1st through Labor Day (Sept 3rd), and Sept 4th through October 20th.

Position: Summer – 35hrs May through Sept, Fall 20hrs Sept through October from 1pm – 4:30pm. Salary is $8.00/hr, references required.

Description: The Museum Assistant’s primary responsibility will be to give daily tours of the museum and to maintain museum interiors. He/she will also assist the director with programming special events which include a folk traditions series, colonial teas, special tours, community events, and a fall series. Tasks will include writing press releases and acting as liaison with the news media, web site updating and maintenance, extensive letter writing, telephone solicitation, and visiting local businesses. The assistant will help with ongoing curatorial/archival projects including accessioning and documentation of objects. In addition, the assistant will help with the care of the historic gardens and grounds including weeding, raking, and pruning.

Requirements: Excellent verbal and writing skills, a Driver’s license, and preferably a car.

Skills: Computer experience including web maintenance, Dreamweaver, MS Word, MS Publisher, Lotus Approach and good typing skills.

Qualifications Needed: Experience or interest in small history museums, ability to work independently with minimum supervision and be highly motivated and self-directed.

Special Interests: Historic interpretation and preservation, educational tour and exhibit development, American family and women’s history, archival processing and historic gardens.

The Research assistant creates web and print tools as well as publications to help people understand and shape federal budget priorities. Research assistants help located and process data for our tools and publications. Advanced interns may participate in the development of these materials. This job involves significant web based research and data entry. Experience / Qualifications: Experience with spreadsheets, data entry and manipulation, formula creation and graph making is required.
