QFS98 -- Financial Assistance:
We have offered financial assistance to most participants who requested it, although we
were not able to meet all requests fully. We have held back a modest reserve to
deal with unexpected conference costs. If we are able to, we will offer some
additional financial assistance to needy participants after the conference. We cannot
at this time (5/13/98) guarantee that we will be able to do this.
Invited Speakers - We did not offer financial aid
to invited speakers unless they fell in one of the categories listed
below. Invited speakers will receive a free ticket to the banquet. They should pay for
their banquet with the registration form, and the banquet fee will be
refunded when they do on-site check-in, or may be deducted from the credit card payment
processed by Conference Services.
Young Investigators - We were able to provide most
young investigators (e.g. unsupported young faculty, and some
postdoctoral research associates) who requested it some form of aid.
Graduate Students - We were able to provide financial
assistance
to most graduate students who requested it, and expect that this will
enhance the level of participation of students in the
conference.
Foreign Scientists - We were able
to offer travel asistance to a number of
scientists from the former Soviet Union, and other distant locations.
