Announcements

  • 2/13: I have added PDF versions of the handouts from class--see below.
  • Other announcements are on WebCT (see below) in a discussion topic called ANNOUNCEMENTS.

Online readings

Online readings are now available through WebCT. Gordon Harvey, Writing with Sources, is linked below. Update, 2/17: because WebCT is screwing up URLs for JSTOR, I am linking articles here too. To access JSTOR articles, you must be on the UMass campus network or log in with your OIT account and password. To print the article, choose "print" at the top of the page and then follow the instructions. If you have trouble printing, you might want to download the article (choose "download" at the top of the page and follow the instructions there).

Theodore E. Mommsen, "Petrarch's Conception of the Dark Ages," is available through JSTOR.

Ronald Witt, "Medieval 'Ars Dictaminis' and the Beginnings of Humanism: a New Construction of the Problem," is available through JSTOR.

Charles Trinkaus, "Humanist Treatises on the Status of the Religious: Petrarch, Salutati, Valla," is available through JSTOR.

WebCT

This course will involve a WebCT component. To access it, go to the main WebCT login page (via webct.oit.umass.edu), log in, and then choose the course from the list of your enrolled courses. To use WebCT, you must activate your OIT computer account (now free). For more information, visit OIT's account web site.

Honors Colloquium

The associated honors colloquium, History H16, meets Thursdays, 2:30-3:20.
