Pacifist Living History Museum and Archives
Stewards at The Peace Abbey serve as curators and archivists for
the many relics, personal affects, manuscripts and documents placed
at the Abbey by members of the Peace Movement, friends and supporters.
The following items are
among the many to be placed at The Peace Abbey:
- Zuccheto (skullcap), eye
glasses and swatch of the blood stained altar cloth of slain Salvadoran
Archbishop Oscar Romero. (A gift from the Carmelite Sisters of
the Divine Providence in San Salvador).
- Sacred Relic of Santa Clara
of Assisi. (Bone fragment XIII Century with Vatican documentation;
a gift from Catholic Lay person).
- Metal Tip from the first
dismantled Soviet ICBM Nuclear Missile. (A gift from the Moscow
Women's Peace Alliance).
- Marble plaque presented
to Alva Myrdal on the occasion of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize
in Oslo, Norway. (A gift from her daughter, Sissila Bok).
- Peace Pilgrim's blue tunic
and sneakers. (Placed at the Abbey by Ann and John Rush who founded
Friends of Peace Pilgrim).
- 19th Century Russian Rosary
made of salt. (A gift from the family of the Georgian Artist who
created the Courage of Conscience Award sculpture and Gandhi statue).
- Bracelets of Vietnam MIAs.
(Placed in Abbey by wearers/activists).
- Franciscan Robe worn by
revered monk. (A gift from Franciscan Monastery in New York State).
- Coat of Maha Ghosananda,
Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia. (A gift from Maha who visited in
1996).
- Cakes and butter candle
and a vigil lamp. (A gift from the seven nuns of the Keydong Nunnery
in Kathmandu when they were guests at The Peace Abbey. While they
stayed here, they created a sand mandala at Brandeis University
which was the first mandala in history which was created by Buddhist
nuns and dismantled by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.)
