Assignment
Plan and deliver a unit of study based on concert repertoire appropriate for use with a middle or high school concert band.

Objectives
Through the course of this authentic project you will be expected to:
  1. Select a concert program consisting of three pieces of repertoire appropriate for use with a middle or high school concert band (one piece must be selected from those identified in class and available on reserve).
  2. Write a justification for your program choices using the criteria for selecting repertoire found in the class notes (see Session 9).
  3. Analyze (in detail) the score you selected for your program from those on reserve using the criteria for score analysis found in the class notes and discussed in class (see Session 10).
  4. Pedagogically analyze the other two scores in your program in enough detail to provide the information needed to complete a unit plan.
  5. Write a unit plan for your concert program using the curriculum format/categories found in the class notes and discussed in class (see Session 11).
  6. Write 2 lesson plans using the curriculum format/categories found in the class notes and discussed in class (see Session 11) to deliver instruction to the class on the piece chosen from reserve (one best example will eventually be submitted).
  7. Teach your lessons to the class, adjusting to improve instruction with each lesson.
  8. Write a critical reflective synthesis the identifies and explains (in detail) your essential understandings about planning and delivering effective instruction.
Directions
This project is the culmination of your work in repertoire selection, score analysis, curriculum planning, and instructional delivery.  It is considered a work in progress until the final deadline is reached.  Until that time, I urge you to turn in samples of your work for feedback, so improvements can be made along the way.  This project is front loaded in that all feedback for improvement will be given between now and the final deadline.  Opportunities for follow-up revisions to improve your final grade will not be provided for this assignment.  When the project is concluded you will be submitting the following documents for assessment and grading:
