Rationale

The purpose of my Bookpush is to help students, parents and guidance counselors deal with gifted students before a problem occurs. You can see my target group under Target Group on this homepage. I think a book discussion group for either student peers or parent/student would work the best. I would like to stimulate genuine discussion and I think this would work. I would use the books in the order they are presented on the booktalk page. I would have the group meet once a month. This way it would give everyone enough time to read the book and I would have a student volunteer to lead the group discussion. The group would be 8-16 members and if there are 16 members the students or student/parents could double up and lead the discussion together.

This method would work because the stories are interesting and down to earth and have the potential for great discussions. These discussions could bring in many of the issues that gifted people face.

Some people might think that if a gifted person might not have issues to discuss because their talent overshadows the possiblity that things might not be right in the lives of these students. This is an attempt to recognize this potential and to deal with some of these issues before they become a problem.

I will evaluate if the student and parents are getting anything out of the book discussion group. A questionaire would be given out after the discussion. There would be four questions on it. They are: 1) Was the book relevant? 2) Are you getting any value out of the book dicussions? 3) Is life or outlook on life changing for you? and 4) What would you like to see being different? The facilitator would collect these and read them and follow-up on any necessary feedback. There is an email address on the home web page. Viewers can send feedback to that email account. Comments or criticism about the book talks and pathfinder will be encouraged and a response will be sent.
