Introduction

Mother/Daughter Book Discussion groups became popular several years ago. The West Springfield Public Library started a program when the girls were in the 6th grade and now they are in the 9th grade. It is a nice forum for mothers and daughters to share this time of life and literature with each other.

One benefit is that the stories were easy to read and pleasant. As the girls grewn older, the subjects of the stories have become more difficult. It has been a very nice experience growing with these girls. A trust formed and has been nurtured to allow the mothers and daughters to get into deeper topics, and the girls seem to have an easier time accepting and talking about these difficult topics than the mothers do! The girls seem more accepting of what is happening to young people in the year 2003. The girls have blossomed over the four years that the program has been going on.
