Mark's primary work has been on the integration of digital technology into the design process. He is currently finishing a book with Jim Sipes of EDAW entitled "Digital Land: Integrating Technology into the Land Planning Process" to be published by John Wiley & Sons in April 2007.

Mark has received over $1,000,000 in research funding through 35 grants during his almost three decades at the University of Massachusetts . He has worked with Emeritus Professor Julius Fabos and Assistant Professor Robert Ryan on the New England Greenway Vision Plan with HATCH funding (1999-2006). They most recently held the Fabos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning in July 2010 in Budapest, Hungary.
