Registration and Academic Advisors

Econ. 103, Fall 2002, Prof. Nancy Folbre

  1. All students should have received information with which they can access SPIRE, the University’s student information system. They are all strongly encouraged to verify that their IDs and passwords work. If you have not yet been able to access SPIRE, contact the OIT Help Desk at 413-545-9400 or at help@oit.umass.edu.

  2. All students should verify through SPIRE that their academic records have been accurately translated into the University’s new student information system. If you detect problems with your academic records, contact the Office of the Undergraduate Registrar at 413-545-0555.

  3. All students should have received information about their "enrollment appointment," i.e., the times and dates when they are allowed to pre-register for Spring 2003 classes, by the end of this week. If you have not received yours, contact the Office of the Undergraduate Registrar at 413-545-0555 no later than the middle of next week.

  4. Pre-registration for Spring 2003 begins on 14 November 2002, and is accessible only through SPIRE. The University’s Class Schedule is now available through SPIRE. Since you will now receive instant confirmation of enrollment, those who pre-register early are most likely to obtain their preferred classes. If you pre-register late in your "enrollment appointment" or wait until add/drop in January 2003, you should not expect to be admitted to your preferred classes. IF YOU ARE IN THE CLASS OF 2003, AND YOU DO NOT PREREGISTER FOR CLASSES DURING YOUR ASSIGNED PERIOD, YOU SHOULD NOT EXPECT TO GRADUATE IN MAY 2003. DO NOT WAIT FOR ADD/DROP IN JANUARY TO REQUEST YOUR COURSES. THE ONLY PRIORITY AVAILABLE TO SENIORS IN COURSE ENROLLMENT NOW IS TO PRE-REGISTER EARLY.

  5. Before 14 November 2002 all students should check their "service indicators," i.e., barriers to pre-registration and enrollment at SPIRE. If you have a service indicator blocking your enrollment until you have consulted with an advisor in the Economics Department, you should meet with one of our advisors in the very near future.
