Online Resources
Web Design Tutorials
Webmonkey (www.webmonkey.com) is our favorite resource for Web developers,
whether beginners or experts. The writers have a wry sense of humor, and
an irreverent attitude.
Web Usability
Jakob Nielsen (www.useit.com) is the
guru of Web usability and is the author of a bi-weekly column called the
Alertbox. He is known for
being a stickler for focusing on the user-experience, castigating self-indulgent
designers who care more about experimenting with new technologies than
what the users actually want or need. For a prime example of Nielsen's
writing, read: Flash:
99% Bad.
For more of Jakob Nielson, read his classic book: Designing
Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity.
Web Style Guide
The Yale
Style Guide site (info.med.yale.edu/caim/manual/contents.html) is
the Web equivalent of the Manual of Style. You can find terrific sections
on all sorts of topics, from Typography on the Web to using Digital Video.
It's also well written, and comprehensive. Check it out!
