Alpha Phi Omega Meeting 3/30/08

SVP:

MBU went smoothly. Thanks to Tricia and everyone who came to help. If anyone has
left over papers, blue cards or MBU books, get them back to the office.

Frank’s Troop – Every Wednesday 700-830pm
St. Johns Episcopal Church, Rt. 9 in Northampton
Shawn will be in the office at 630 to give rides.

Prison Book Project Every Sunday 1-4
We put together packages for Prisoners in Texas and New England with books that
have been donated.

April 11-13 – Camping with Frank’s Troop
If anyone is available, he really needs help while camping (especially Saturday
night) at Nobleview in Russell, MA. Any questions, contact Diana.

April 12 – Alpha Phi Omega’s 5K Road Race
First annual “Spring in Action”, a 5K hosted entirely by APO. Please help make
this a fantastic fundraising event. Volunteer Arrival at 7:45am. Registration
starts at 8:00am with the race starting at 9:00am. The 5K starts at the Student
Union. We will be handling registration, watching cars, and handing out water.
From March 31st (Monday) to April 4th we will be tabling in the campus center
from 9:00am-2:00pm. Talk to Kate (kdarling@student.umass.edu) for questions or
to sign up. We will also be raffling prizes, with contributions helping area
homeless shelters. If you'd like to ask business(es) in town for donations, talk
to Kate.

Fri-Sat April 18-19 – Relay for Life
Relay for Life will be held at Amherst College track. Thanks to all those who
paid the $10 registration fee! (You get a free Relay shirt) Everyone who hasn't
paid--get your $10 to Ali (aherman@student.umass.edu) or Tricia
(fruchter@student.umass.ed) ASAP to register. Contact them if you have any
questions how to register.
We will be canning on Tuesday April 1 - meet in the office at 7
There is an international theme. We are Germany!

Mon April 21 – Boston Marathon
We are at water station 5 (Framingham). We will be staying at Steve and
Yukeshan's house in Acton, Ma.
**Any alumni, if you need a place to stay, please let Heather
(aurorasflipflops@yahoo.com) know, we have plenty of space for you. Directions
will be sent out closer to the date.

Thurs Apr 24 – WGBY Wine and Dine Auction 9pm - 1130pm
Need to answer phones, run bids and record on whiteboard. (The auction will
also be happening on 4.23.08 and 4.25.08.. If you'd like to attend one, contact
Shawn, sbrobbin@student.umass.edu)

Thurs May 1 –Locks for Love Hair Drive
Flyers are in Jill's mailbox--flyer!! (you get service hours!)

April 24, May 8, May 14 – Operation Military Kid Training
In a nutshell it is a "media" unit that kids can make cards, videos, e-mail
their parents etc. 4-H needs volunteers to be trained on these mobile units and
go to deployments, family days, and other events and work with the kids to
create ways to connect with their parent(s) overseas. This is a good way for APO
to work with other groups. There are three training days to be held in 301
Slobody building. You would be trained in Office, Adobe Flash, Adobe Premiere
Elements, Adobe Photoshop, Kid Pix, Hallmark Card, Encarta Premium 2007, Nero
Ultra Edition, Deep Freeze ENT Media Package. The equipment consists of 10
laptops, digital camera, mini-dv camcorder, printer/scanner/ copier and asst
cables, routers,etc. The training days are:

4.24.08--6:00pm-9:00pm
5.8.08--1:00pm-4:00pm
5.4.08--9:00am-12:00pm

May 12-16 – Fill a bus
Our duties involve manning the bus at all times. We will collect and sort
donations of clothing, non-perishable food, and other similar things to give
Amherst survival shelter.

Shawn was contacted by Amherst High School. They are interested in having
college kids tutor high school children in Math, Science and Social Studies.
They would prefer our help on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 220 to 330 or
400. Our goal is to be positive role models.

April 20 - Membership Summit at University of Hartford.
Learn about membership retention, MVP, recruiting new members, etc.
Free Pizza lunch!

Pledge Liaison – Pledge service project at 1pm on April 6th
Pledge Fellowship- Outdoor games after the service project in Groff Park.

National Convention – Dec 27-30, 2008
We have the rate of $104.00 for the Sheraton Boston 12.24.08-1.2-09
Registration for Nationals is $75.00 (start saving for an awesome time!!)

Venturing Photo Contest between March 1 - August 1

New Business:

We will have a meeting for nationals, which will last approximately one hour; to
whittle our list of workshops from about 150 topics, to a manageable size. This
will occur after the brotherhood meeting on April 6.

Congratulations to Jacob on getting his play chosen!! Jacob wrote a play which
will be performed May 1-18, 2008 at the Theatre Project in Baltimore, MD. See

Shawn, Lauren, Daria, and Eric are training for the Boston Marathon--contact one
