20 Landscapes Inspiring American
Arts and Letters
The hearts and minds of the Early American
settlers were awed and captivated by the landscapes they encountered.
For many generations, dreamers, drifters, and scholars have
contemplated the beauty and bounty of the New England landscape and
committed these musings to paper, canvas, stone, and to the land
itself. Here we visit 20 special places that demonstrate the kinship
of the creative mind, with the land that both sustains and inspires
it. Each site was selected for its association with an American
artist, or for its significance as a "Classic New England Landscape"
before or after human intervention.
We hope the dreamer, drifter and scholar in all of you will
appreciate this journey.
