Coach Chris Cobb is entering his fifth season with the UMass
Women's Ice Hockey Team. After serving as an assistant for a
year and a half, Coach Cobb took over as interim Head Coach
during the 2006-2007 season. That same year, although UMass
entered the National tournament as the lowest seeded team Coach
Cobb led UMass to a first round upset of the University of Michigan
and an eventual 8th place finish in the ACHA National Tournament.
Coach Cobb was promoted to Head Coach following the 2007 season.
During his first two seasons the Minute Women have had instant
success going 36-13-4-3, a Home record of 17-1-2, a 6th place
finish at the National Tournament in 2009, the 2009 ECWHL League
Championship and a trip to the ACHA Final Four in 2008, which
is the highest finish in the program's history.
In the past two seasons under Coach Cobb his student athletes
have earned numerous post season awards including ten All-American
awards, nine All ECWHL Awards, six All National Tournament
Awards, four All ECWHL Tournament Awards, four Academic All-American
Awards, and one American Collegiate Hockey Association Women’s
Division One National Player of The Year award.
In the summer time, Coach Cobb is the girl's program director
for the Mass Attack girl’s hockey program out of the
Boston area, where he directs hockey camps and coach’s
girl's tournament teams. He was also selected to be a coach
at the 2009 ACHA Development Camp.
Cobb, a native of Swanton, Vermont, excelled at the high
school hockey level for Missisquoi Valley Union High School
in Swanton. After graduation Cobb attended Kimball Union Academy
in Meriden, New Hampshire before injury forced his retirement.
Prior to Coaching at UMass, Cobb was a Peewee Boys Coach
for two seasons. Cobb also has 10 years of experience as a
USA Hockey Certified Referee.
Coach Cobb holds a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology from the
University of Massachusetts, and is enrolled as a graduate
student at Ohio University working towards his Masters Degree
in Coaching Education.
He resides in Amherst, MA with his dog Stanley. |
