Abby on top of the keep, overlooking the river Boyne. The town of Trim was at the boundary of the "Pale" (the area controlled by England). Outside of this region -- "beyond the Pale" -- was considered uncivilized. This is the origin of this phrase. (Click "Up" to access the 'page 3' photos.)
