WEEK 6:
Ausonius, Fortunatus, Sedulius, Paulinus of Nola, et alia
25 February

A blur of late antiquity. Consider the variety of literary genres and aims: how do we acclimate ourselves as readers? What do we look for?

In addition to pursuing some of the topics we have already raised, we will consider the manuscript culture of the Middle Ages. I will reveiw bibliographies, finding aids, manuscript catalogues, and so forth.

NB. Bibliography for figura paper.

READ

1) Raby, pp. 72-120.

2) Caroline White, Early Christian Latin Poets (Routledge, 2000); chapters: Juvencus, Proba, Paulinus of Nola, Sedulius, Arator, Venantius Fortunatus.
