    • Read Orrin Robinson, chapter 5 ("Old Saxon") in Old English and its Closest Relatives, pp. 100 to 135.

     

    W 12 April

    • Read Borges, Ancient Germanic Literatures, chapter 3, pp. 79 to 97.
    • Read the Heliand (handout), songs 1 through 15. [Email me for the handout.]
    • Here is the Berlin manuscript.
    • Here is the edition by Behaghel.
    • Here is Tatian's gospel harmony.
    • Read James Cathey, "The Historical Setting of the Heliand, the Poem, and the Manuscripts," in V. Pakis [Free through UMass].

 

DUE FRIDAY: 300-word paper on Old Saxon or Middle High German philology.
