WEEK 4 Articles & Nouns

    ave. 7 sentences/hr.

    • MR 3 §§ 22-46 (make charts; memorize the weak declensions for m, f, n nouns)
    • Word formation, esp. affixation: MR 4, §§136-38.
    • Concord, MR § 187.
    • kA, ch. 9; OEA § 6.
    • MR Appendix B, pp. 159-60.
    • Caedmon's Hymn, pp. 221-222; (ll. 36-44, 1-17, and 18-35).

    Notes:

Use Modern English pronouns as a guide to your strong inflections. Go with your instincts of the phonology of deep syntax (like The Force, but stronger).

While translating, think in sentences, not in verse units (half lines). Half lines will often dispose according to phrasal structure. Check the handout for common problems in Caedmon's Hymn.
