Program Description

Scenic UMass AmherstMasters Program

The Master’s program is the equivalent of a two-year full-time program aimed at preparing students with the knowledge competencies, skills, and ethics necessary to be leaders in higher education in the 21st century. The program is approximately 80% full-time and 20% part-time.

Candidates select one of three tracks:

  • The Higher Education Administration track has a strong focus on leadership theory and practice and leads to various administrative positions in higher education.
  • The Student Affairs Administration track has a strong focus on the holistic development of students and leads to administrative positions specifically within the division of student affairs in postsecondary education.
  • The Service-Learning and Community Engagement track has a strong focus on learning through university-community partnerships and leads to administrative positions and coordination of community service-learning and engagement in postsecondary education.

Students complete a core of foundation courses; a series of specialization courses; a minimum of one research methods course; at least 120 hours of supervised practice; and an integrative seminar that culminates with a portfolio. [36 Total credits minimum]
