The Green Engineer, LLP is a sustainable design consulting firm. We offer solutions to help you design and build with improved energy efficiency and reduced impact on the environment.

The Green Engineer, LLP is led by Chris Schaffner P.E., LEED - The Green Engineer. A professional mechanical engineer, registered in Massachusetts and California, Chris has 18 years of experience in the design of building systems with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

As recent headlines bear out, the need for energy efficient green buildings has never been greater. Todays global competition for natural resources is pushing green building technology to the core of mainstream practice. At The Green Engineer, LLP we help you manage this transition to construct the high-performance buildings today that will set the design standards of the future.

A long time promoter of sustainable design, Chris has been a member of the U S Green Building Council's (USGBC) faculty since 2001, training more than 2,600 building industry professionals in the use of the LEED Rating System. He is also an elected member of the USGBC's LEED-NC Core Committee, working to produce the next generation of LEED, and sits on the LEED Indoor Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group (TAG).

Chris has taught courses in Sustainable Design and Building Technology at the Boston Architectural Center and the Ben Franklin Institute of Technology. He speaks frequently at conferences on the issues of sustainable design, energy efficiency and high performance buildings and has specific expertise on the use of under-floor air systems. Chris is a member of the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust Fund Green Building Advisory Committee, and is a founding board member of Harbwood Wholesalers Inc. which is a USGBC affiliate for Boston.

Prior to founding his own firm, The Green Engineer, LLP, he was an Associate in the Boston-office of ARUP, the international engineering design office. The Green Engineer, LLP is a member of the USGBC and an Energy Star partner.
