QFS98 -- On-Site Conference/Housing Check-in:
Check-in. Upon arrival at the
University of Massachussetts, two actions will be required of conference participants: (1) check-in to the conference itself
(pick up abstract booklet, meal tickets etc.), and (2) check-in to
housing accomodations. For the convenience of those who may arrive at
unusual times, we have arranged that these are independent events, with housing check-in available
24 hours a day.
Directions on campus. A
campus map which can be
clicked for changes in gain is available. The Sylvan residential complex (which houses
the conference dormitory, Cashen) is shown on
the upper right-center of the map. The (Lincoln) Campus Center Hotel is
just to the north of the campus pond (adjacent to the parking garage and the student union).
The reception and registration on June 8, 1998 will be
held on the 16th floor of the (Lederle) Graduate Researh Center (to the north of the
Campus Center Hotel).
Comment on Distances: The Campus Center Hotel, the Sylvan dormitory complex, and
the Franklin dining hall are separated by modest distance on the campus. The approximate distances
between these three facilities are: Campus Center Hotel - Franklin Dining = 490 meters;
Campus Center Hotel - Sylvan dormitory = 740 meters; Sylvan dormitory - Franklin
Dining = 940 meters.
Housing. The Campus Center Hotel is
staffed 24 hours a day,
and will have at the front desk a list of those who have reserved the hotel
and made a first night's deposit
with their payment form. The Cashen dorm in the Sylvan Residential dormitory area will also be staffed 24 hours a day, and
participants may check-in to their dormitory room immediately on arrival to the
campus. The person staffing the dormitory office will have a list of all
conference participants who have selected and pre-paid for the dormitory. Thos who require housing June 7 and earlier, or who require it June 14 and later
will be temporarily housed in the Knowlton dorm located on North Pleasant Street across the
street from the Lederle Graduate Research Center.
Conference. Conference check-in will be held
adjacent to the conference
reception (Lederle Graduate Research Center, 16th floor). Conference check-in
will be available from 2:00 PM on June 8th, though the reception 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
Additional conference check-in will begin at 7:30 AM on June 9th adjacent to the
main conference meeting
site and continue through the first coffee break on June 9th. Following that coffee break, conference check-in
will be available at a more remote location (on the 9th floor) in the same building.
Unusual Situations. In the rare case of someone who
arrives without prior payment of fees, the check-in will be more complicated and will
require the person to FIRST check in to the conference and pay all fees. Only then will
access to the dormitory (or hotel at conference rates) be available.
