The Phonetics Lab is the UMass Linguistics Department's environment for investigating the acoustics, production, and perception of speech.
The lab includes:
- A sound-attenuated room with five computers for running perceptual experiments.
- A sound studio outfitted with a sound-proof booth and equipment for recording stimulus materials and running production experiments.
- Separate rooms holding workstations for sound editing, speech synthesis, experiment programming, data analysis, and other tasks related to phonetic study.
The lab space supports a diverse community of faculty, advanced and beginning graduate students, and undergraduates.
