WEB 2.0 TOOLS
USED IN METHODOLOGY COURSE

For the elementary mathematics methodology course I am planning to teach in the summer of 2011, students will be expected to use a variety of Web 2.0 tools. “The term Web 2.0 is commonly associated with those web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web.” (Lever-Duffy and McDonald, 2011, 402).

In the section that follows, the Web 2.0 tools studied during this sabbatical leave are listed along with ways that I am planning to infuse these technologies into the “distributed-learning” activities in the pre-service methods course being developed. The tools have been categorized as collaboration tools (i.e. wikis, social bookmarking, social taggings, etc.), communication tools (i.e. e-mails, blogs, threaded discussions, etc.), presentation tools (i.e. webquest presentations, multi-media sharing, youtube reporting, etc.), and evaluation tools (i.e. monkey surveys, on-line editing, etc.).
