Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and
assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Specifically, teachers design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
REFLECTIONS ON NETS-T-2a:
The tasks of designing and adapting relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools which also will promote student learning and creativity was the overarching goal of my 2010 Sabbatical Leave. The press announcement regarding my sabbatical read:
Dr Elliott will spend her sabbatical leave research and perfecting the infusion of multi-media technology into her mathematics methodology classes with the end result being improved face-to-face and web-based delivery of these courses.
The course syllabus that I am showcasing in this report is in draft form and will accompany my proposal to modify EDUC 463 to a hybrid (Fall/Spring) course and an online (Summer) course for prospective Early Childhood and Elementary School Teachers. The course syllabus can be viewed by going to the following website: https://udrive.oit.umass/pelliott/Educ463online
When students come to my office in Room 106 Furcolo, the sign on the door reads:
“Knowledge Under Construction.”
This statement is testimony to the fact that I continuously design, develop and evaluate authentic learning experience for students so that they can create metaphors for their own understandings about mathematics.
