About Me

My name is Nicholas Villahermosa. I'm a senior and very-soon-to-be-graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where I'm completing an English major with a minor in Information Technology and a certificate of specialization in Technical Writing.

I've lately become interested in web design in a big way, and I'm doing my best to soak up as much information as I can, and ideally get a job in the field.

About This Site

This site is the end result of ENGL 391C, a class in basic web design. Over the course of the semester, I've realized that I have a true passion for the subject, and made it a personal goal to learn everything that I can about it. It's an ongoing project, in large part because I frequently find myself overhauling and redesigning much (if not all) of the site. Still, I'd like to think that this is more about the journey. That's rather Zen, isn't it?

Why Reflections? Initially, I was going for a more direct connection to the "Zen Garden" theme, and thought a reflecting pool might fit the bill. On further thought though, it's more than that: this site is the result of my own reflections on what good design is, and it also serves as a mirror for me to see what I've learned, and what I haven't.

If you're a designer with knowledge or tips to share, especially with ways to make this site adhere to best practices and generally be standards-compliant, I'd love to hear from you. If you're an aspiring designer yourself, I'll happily share what I've learned so far, or at least point you in the best direction I know of.
