Oct. 22
The schedule for the NELS Bus Shuttle ["Yellow 36", Northampton – UMass] is now available. Right now, the only hotel stop is the Best Western in Northampton. If you are staying in a hotel on Route 9 [Russell Street], e.g. the Econo Lodge or the Holiday Inn Express, and would like to be picked up by the NELS bus, let us know right away!

Oct. 20

  • One week until NELS 36. Thanks to everybody who pre-registered. If you haven't done so, but plan to attend, please consider to still pre-register. It will safe you time at the regstration desk, and you'll get a nice printed name-tag :).
  • We'll still try to accommodate you for last minute arrangements for NELS Shutteling from Bradley airport. Please let us know ASAP if you want to use this service.
  • Day parking passes for the Campus Garage are now available at the registration desk. You can enter the garage without the pass.
  • Travel safe! See you here soon!

The accomodation and travel page has been updated with a few more rates for hotels in the area. These rooms are only guaranteed to be saved for NELS participants for a very limited time, in some cases only up to October 3, so we encourage you to look into booking a room early.

The informations on accomodation and traveling are updated. Please make sure to reserve a room as soon as possible, as hotel space tends to fill up quickly during the fall in Massachusetts.

Topics at the Morphology-Phonology Interface
Invited Speaker: Bruce Tesar

This session will include regular-length talks that address issues at the morphology-phonology boundary, including:

  • morphological categories and boundaries in phonology
  • learnability of morphological contrasts
  • phonologically-conditioned allomorphy & paradigm gaps
  • contrast neutralization/preservation in paradigms
  • paradigm uniformity, OO-correspondence, stratal OT
space

Semantics of Under-represented Languages
Invited Speaker: J. Michael Terry

This session will include regular-length talks that address the semantics of under-represented languages, including non-standard dialects of well-studied languages. Areas include:

  • theoretical semantics
  • experimental work on semantics
  • semantic fieldwork
  • morpho-semantics
  • the syntax-semantics interface
  • the semantics-pragmatics interface
  • information structure
