Laboratory Facilities
University of Massachusetts:
The 2500 square foot Muscle Physiology Laboratory in Totman Building contains a workstation for the collection of muscle force, fatigue, activation, and contractile properties in the ankle dorsiflexor muscles, and a separate workstation housing the Biodex System 3 isokinetic dynamometer. A plethysmograph for the measurement of limb blood flow is also in use in this facility. Four computer stations are housed in the lab and are used for data acquisition and analysis.

| Our research collaboration with Yale University School of Medicine allows us access to both MRS and MRI research facilities. In the Magnetic Resonance Research Center, we use a 4.0T whole body Bruker system to measure changes in high-energy phosphates and intramuscular pH during exercise and fatigue. Additionally, we use 1.5T and 3.0T whole-body Signa systems to non-invasively measure muscle activation and perfusion during and following isometric exercise. | ![]() |
