Postdocs:

Kevin D. McCarthy - kevind.mccarthy [at] gmail.com

Postdoctoral research associate

Kevin recieved his B.S and Ph. D. degrees in Physics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  His research interests are in optical and electronic nanotechnologies, with a focus on the optical and electronic properties of semicoductor quantum dots and chiral molecules.

Grad Students:

Kevin Early - ktearly [at] chem.umass.edu

3rd year graduate student

Kevin received his B.S. in Chemistry at the University of California San Diego in 2005, where he studied dissociative photoelectron detachment in gas-phase anions. He currently studies charge and energy transport properties in single  hybrid quantum dots using fluorescence microscopy and atomic force microscopy and enjoys running and playing guitar.

Ruthanne Hassey - rhassey [at] chem.umass.edu

4th year graduate student

Ruthanne received her B.S. in Chemistry at Houghton College, Houghton, NY in 2004.

She is currently studying the chiroptical properties of bridged triarylamine helicene molecules using single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy.

Jinhong Kim - jinhong [at] chem.umass.edu

1st year graduate student

Jinhong received his B.S. in Chemistry at the Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea in 2007. He is interested in the electronic properties and dynamics of materials such as quantum dots or nanocrystals. He is currently studyinig the proton transfer in the helical nanocrystals.

Michael Odoi - modoi [at] chem.umass.edu

4th year graduate student

Michael received his B. S. in chemistry at the

university of Science and Technology, Ghana.

His current work involves time-resolved single

molecule spectroscopy of single quantum dots

conjugated with organic ligands.

Undergrads:

Samuel Bearg - sbearg [at] student.umass.edu

Senior working on a B.S. in Chemistry

Samuel briefly attended the University of Massachusetts Lowell, but has spent most of his undergraduate career in Amherst. Having worked in both the inorganic laboratory of Michael Knapp and the Barnes group, the Chemistry department awarded him the Richard W. Fessenden Memorial Award in 2008.

Francois Jean-Charles - fjeancha [at] student.umass.edu
