Eric S. Rawson, Ph.D.

Eric and his son Christopher

I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Exercise Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2000. I had the opportunity there to lecture in the course Human Performance and Nutrition. A major focus of my research at the University of Massachusetts was the effects of nutritional supplements on exercise performance and weight gain in aging populations.I then completed post-doctoral fellowships in the Department of Medicine at the University of Vermont and in the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.  Currently, I am Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletics at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania.  My research focuses on the interactive effects of nutrition and exercise on chronic disease and on nutritional supplementation and health.

I believe that the five years I spent as a graduate student in the Exercise Biochemistry Laboratory better prepared me for an academic career than any other graduate experience could have.  The academic world is challenging and jobs for prestigious post-doctoral fellowships and assistant professorships are highly competitive and require an elaborate skill set.  At UMass I was able to develop these skills and grow as a researcher, teacher, writer, and most importantly as a critical thinker.  A day rarely passes where I do not incorporate something from the foundation I developed at UMass into my work.
