It is a little known fact that Berkeley, California, plays host to
two major institutions of higher learning. Both schools are
bounded by Bancroft Way (south), Oxford Street (west), Hearst Avenue
(north), and Piedmont Avenue (east) and administered from Sproul Hall.
The first school is Cal, founded in 1868, whose mission is the higher
education of well-brought-up children from the best California
families. The second is Berkeley, founded in 1964, which lures
lunatics and geniuses from around the world.
Trenton, Capital City of New Jersey, is a city of 88,675 on the shores
of the Delaware River. Once a tiny industrial powerhouse, the site of
innovation in fabricated metal products, ceramics, and rubber, Trenton
made the cables used in the
George Washington,
Golden Gate, and
Brooklyn
Bridges.
Since the 1950s, Trenton has experienced hard times because
of the shifting currents of capitalism.
