Phone Websites
I was looking at a website the other day called www.advancedtele.com and it really was interesting. It basically is a blog website where people talk about things that have to do with phones and messaging. Everything from the mobile marketing association sending text messages as a way to market a product to using your phone for dating.
One of the blogs talks about voting on who is the hottest wife of athletes and there is a little blurb there and a description and then you text in to vote on who you think should win. It is weird to see now how much TV and internet incorporates phones and text messaging now. When I was watching a TV show the other day, one of the ways to vote for your favorite dancer or singer on the show was to text their letter to a certain number. There are so many shows with interactions now that involve the audience (us) voting on who the winner should be it can make your head spin.
Another one of the blogs written was about mobile advertising. It talks about how many ads people get through text messages now and how mobile marketing really is on the rise. We were talking about advertising through the internet and phone in class one day last semester and at that time I had gotten thousands of emails about ads and pop ups when I was online (they are everyone on the internet) but had never gotten a text message. But then a few weeks later I got an ad through text message about a magazine subscription and then a few days later I got one for a local gym (which is weird because my phone number isn't local since I am away at school). I do wonder how though they end up getting my phone number.
But it does make sense that marketing through TV and internet and text messaging would be so popular right now, because we spend so much time each day with these types of media. People are just throwing away what looks like junk mail when it comes in the mail now and not even stopping to look at it because you can recognize right away what it is. But if you get a text message you are bound to open it and see, even if you erase it right away, you have to read it to find out what it is.
