Ontario insurance
Things work out well in mysterious ways. I'm a business major, but I took a part-time job at an insurance company to supplement my college income. I wasn't particularly fond of my job but I was learning a lot about insurance policies, what they meant, and why they were so important. I didn't think my newly acquired knowledge would do too much for anybody I knew. I guess I was wrong.
A good friend of mine recently moved to Ontario, and though I missed her, it sounded like she was very successful in her new surroundings. She called me one day, concerned because she was having some insurance problems. Apparently her car insurance was set to expire soon and her plan wasn't what she wanted it to be and was too expensive for her to maintain since she'd just spent a lot of money moving. She wanted to know where she could find some cheap auto insurance.
I'm no insurance expert, but I hopped on line to find her some of the nearest Ontario insurance agencies so she could compare prices. Together, we made a list of possible places with quotes within her price range. We knew that the prices were only tentative, but they did give us a frame of reference. She at least now knew what to expect from the agencies when it came to prices, and she could go in as an informed customer. She didn't want to be bamboozled into paying too much for her auto insurance if she knew there were other, cheaper alternatives out there.
Our work was not yet done though. “My last insurance company screwed me over,” she told me on the phone once. I remembered this from a conversation we had earlier. “How can I report them, or what do I do if I have problems with my insurance agency? Last time I felt alone and unable to protect myself against the company.”
It took a little more researching, but I ran across the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. I told her that while I wasn't sure of their scope of power or what they would really be ale to accomplish, I was sure that they should be able to help her if she ran into any problems. At least she now knew that she wasn't completely at the mercy of the insurance company she chose.
When we got off the phone, I felt pretty confident in my friend and I knew that she'd be able to handle this insurance mess.
