debt consolidation

This summer I am just chilling at home. I don’t know if many of my friends or semi-friends stuck around town but I would assume that if any of them did they are all by themselves right now.  I am here at home with the parents helping them move to their new house. That’s right folks my parents are moving.  At some point in the last year we have all heard, unless we have been locked in a room alone, that there is a bit of a credit crisis going on right now.  A big part of that problem has been the sub-prime housing situation that has put a lot of well intentioned people out of their houses.  Well this is one of those issue that college students tend to see as separate from themselves but this one has hit me right where it hurts.  It hit me in the parents.  About four years ago my parents bought a house with one of these sub prime mortgages and it was amazing.  This place just looked too good to be true at the time and now it is sort of interesting that I had thought that back when it was still unknown to all these buyers that things were going to get bad on the horizon.  So my parents had the house for about two years and then they saw their interest rates beginning to rise.  They started slow at first and then it got really bad.  They had to go to almost weekly debt consolidators meetings with their financial advisor to keep the bills paid.  My dad had to take on another job because his idea to eliminate debt eventually got to a point where he would have had to take another loan.  There is only so much debt consolidation you can do I guess.  Now they have decided to sell the house because he can’t take working both jobs anymore. Now they are moving across town to a much smaller house until they can build up a little bit of savings and hopefully move again in a few years.  This sounds a little sad I know but these are the signs of our times and we really have to embrace this because it is history folks.
