SAUNABAU

My father is very handy and wanted to build my mother a sauna for a Christmas gift, well, he found some instructions on the web on how to build a sauna, but they were in German, but it seemed okay and that he could do it of course after I translated out the web page. This is what it said in German:

Which translated in English to:

Using the sauna is very popular for many people who care on their health. In many leisure facilities such as gyms and spa installations sauna is an integral part. In larger establishments you can choose between different types of sauna like finnish sauna, infrared sauna and the classic steam room.

Besides the sauna some institutions offer many other benefits such as relaxation whirlpools, solariums and massages. Even small swimmigpools are in many areas to find.

Those who prefer to have the sauna at home get nowadays many different choices. Most people who want a home sauna build themselves. There are various sauna kits complete with interior and furnace sold. Who is good in home improvement thus can build its own sauna. Who have special demands in the sauna should prefer a professional for advice.

Amazingly we were able to complete the sauna, however if my father had not been so handy we would not have been able to complete the task. From my perspective for the amount of work we put into this project, it would have been well worth it to pay a professional to have it done for us.

Computer Science Class

My sophomore year of college I took computer science. It is a required class, so you can bet that if it wasn't I wouldn't have taken it. I hate technology. Well, I don't hate it, because it allows me to talk to my friends, listen to my music, email and check my bank statements in like 5 seconds, but I hate dealing with it. I always have problems with my phone or my computer or my iPod, and I never know how to fix them. I thought taking this class would make me more familiar with laptops, since there were a whole 2 chapters and a test on them (which I got an A on). But it never seems the same when you are dealing with a real life problem as it does when you are doing examples from a text book and it tells you to hit control, alt, delete. That sequence doesn't always work in real life (or at least not for me, who ever really knows what the computer is thinking.

Something else I have never understood is the television and DVD player. Honest to God, I still call it VHS (and I'm not even old). My roommate just got a new TV and the other day she was telling me something about how in color lcds, each pixel is divided or something. I had no idea what she was talking about. I can barely even turn the TV on (which is sad I know). But never ask me to work the DVD player. If I am ever at home by myself, I can't watch a movie because I seriously do not understand how to change the TV over to DVD or how to hook it up. I guess it is probably because someone else will always do it for me (mostly because I get really frustrated), but I really never had to do it and now I just don't have any desire to.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we are a society based upon technology. I can get by and I'm actually pretty good with the internet and school related projects that need to be done on the computer, I'm not a total dummy, but it something were to go wrong, I probably would not be able to fix it or even know where to start. Maybe I should have paid more attention in that computer science class.

Electronics Stolen

Over the weekend we had someone break into our house. Being a 21 year old girl living on my own with 3 other girls and really no other experience, it really is a scary situation to have to go through. We came home Saturday after a day of shopping and running errands to find our front door wide open and our things all over the place. Right away I called my dad who told me to call the police and our landlord. Thankfully our landlord responded quickly (the police took about an hour and a half to come) and he had our locks changed right away since there really was no sign of forced entry so it could have been a previous tenant or someone who may have gotten a key from one in the past.

When the police finally got there we had to go through each room with them and tell them and write down what was missing and estimate how much it was worth. Thankfully my room had been locked and nothing was taken. But my roommates weren't so lucky. The roommate on the first floor with me had her camera, laptop and iPod taken. She was more upset because her project that she had worked on for weeks was on her computer and it was now gone and due the next day. My roommate upstairs had her lcd television taken and her laptop as well. Her camera and iPod were lying out on her desk but they weren't taken and my other roommate's room was locked as well.

Being broken into and getting our stuff stolen (well my roommates getting their stuff stolen) really was kind of a wakeup call for us. You never really think that things like that will happen to you. You see them on TV, hear about them in the news or from other people and just never really consider what you would do if you were in that situation. I really do think it prepared us to be safer and lock up our stuff and just to observe and be aware of our surroundings (too bad we learned the hard way). But now we know that we should have a detailed list of our valuables and proof that we had them like a serial number and a price. Things that we didn't think about before made us very aware and will help us in the future.

A NEW PERSIAN RUG & A FACE LIFT FOR MY LIVING ROOM

The current economy makes it difficult to get a deal on the everyday stuff that you need. The price of groceries are up and so is gas, but sometimes there are deals to be had at other stores, for instance I went to a home decor store in my area and they had a great deal on everything that you would need to redo your home and make it look fantastic for the holidays. Once I saw the deals, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to redo my living room. It has been an eye sore for a while now, and I wasn't able to do anything with it on a budget until now. I found some great deals on some wall paper and paint, and I got some great ideas from a magazine and decided that since the deals were so good that I was going to go shopping for curtains and Persian Rugs. I went out and began shopping around and there were really some great deals. I couldn't believe it! I guess that the stores are trying to get people to shop so they are dropping their prices low, low, low. If you have any money to spend, now is the time.

I got my Persian Rug and my curtains for a really great price, and I know that they are going to look great in my living room, once I am done with the walls. I am going to start on my redecorating project tomorrow, so that I can have it finished before the holidays set in. I am really looking forward to having some company over for the holidays, and what a great time of year to show off my new living room. It will look like a completely different place when I get through with it. If I have time, I am going to redo the entry way also, and give it a face lift. I may even go back to that great place and get myself another Persian Rug. I got such a good deal on everything, that I may just wind up redecorating the whole place before the winter is over. It needs it, and at these prices who can resist doing it now!

TOLL FREE NUMBERS NOT JUST FOR BUSINESSES

I used to think that Toll Free Numbers were only for large corporations and businesses, oh yes, and of course telemarketing agencies. When I went away to school, my mother wanted me to call her all the time. I really didn't want her calling the dorm, too embarrassing to have mommy calling every day, and my cell phone bill was going through the roof. On weekend, when I was home I sat down and talked with Mom about it, and she suggested that we look online and consider getting a toll free number, so I could call her from anywhere with none of those annoying collect call charges, those really add up. I got online and found a lot of good information at tollfreenumber.ORG . On this site I found out that my mother didn't have to change her home phone number or anything, she just had to pay for a toll free number, and then I could call her right on her home phone from anywhere with only a minimal fee. I told my mom about it, and she told me to go ahead and set it up for her. It was so simple to set up, and mom thought that she could also use this number for her home business that she had and then it wouldn't cost her out of state customers anything to call her. She even went so far as to have both numbers printed on her business cards.

Now we are using the 1-866 number that my mother has and it is working out great, neither of us is paying a lot of money and we get to talk to each other all the time. Mom feels more secure in knowing that I can reach her from anywhere at anytime of day, but just simply dialing the toll free number, which has significantly cut back on the number of times she is calling me. That is really good news, because at 19 who wants their mommy calling them everywhere they go? Mom also says that she is receiving more phone calls about her business than ever before. She says that using the 1-866 number makes her seem like a bigger business and her customers really seem to like that.

Overall, using this service has provided us both with benefits and I am really glad that I found tollfreenumber.ORG.

Making appointments

Do you ever feel like you have no time to spend with your family and friends? Instead of hanging out with your loved ones playing games or watching movies together or going out to eat or to the park, you are stuck running errands all day or on the phone making appointments. By the time you get home to your roommates, friends or family it is late and everyone is just ready for bed.

Thankfully the internet has taken over and is more popular than ever for consumers. Today you can order groceries online, look up the nearest and cheapest gas stations, do your banking and even make doctor's appointments. Yes, I said it, doctors appointments online. So instead of spending your whole day on the phone with a receptionist or upset that you called after hours and have to wait until the next day to talk to someone and make an appointment, you are able to spend that time with your family and friends and make those appointments early in the morning, later at night or whenever is convenient for you.

ZocDoc is a website that enables you to go online, look up a New York dentist and make an appointment. All you have to do is type in "Brooklyn dentist" or "dentist in Bronx" and ZocDoc will find a dentist for you. You will get a list of dentists that are in your area that accept your health insurance plan. You don't have to spend time looking around or on the phone talking to receptionists hunting for a dentist's office that accepts your dental insurance.

This website is such a convenience. You are able to look at the backgrounds and pictures of each dentist and their history. It even shows other patients ratings on their personal visits. It allows you to make an appointment for the next few days or upcoming weeks online and in the privacy of your home. You can even make appointments for the same day! If only every service allowed us to do this online, we would have so much more time for our families and friends and for leisure time. We only have 9ish hours usually to do a lot of our errands. Doctors and dentists offices are only open at certain times during the day and not usually on weekends, so it is great that they now have a website that you can use to schedule your appointments after hours and on your own time.

Working Hard

My cousin now owns a multimillion dollar interior design business. She runs her own company and everyday she gets to do what she loves. The thing is, it hasn't always been that way. She worked her butt off to get where she is today and it really does inspire me (and kind of scare me) to see how much her hard work really has paid off. She started off restocking the office coffee supplies and getting the dry cleaning for her boss and now she runs her own business. She really does have the motivation and drive and business smarts that any girl wishes they had.

She started off in high school working in my aunt's office as a secretary. My aunt is an accountant for an architecture firm, and she got to see everything that went on behind the scenes and after the buildings were built she got to meet with clients and find out their style to direct them to then interior and exterior decorators which is how she realized what she wanted to do. After working this job for a few summers (I worked there too!) and doing paperwork and handing out promotional pens and mugs, she finally got up the nerve to talk to someone in the decorating department about a job. They liked her so much that they gave her an internship (not many people get an internship their summer going INTO college). But she was really excited to get to work hands on with clients and get to know what really happened behind the scenes. So she took business classes and design classes in college and every summer came back to work for a different department of the design company. I think that really did help her, because although some of the departments bored her or really weren't what she was looking to get into, she was able to see every aspect of the job and today it has helped build up a whole company from scratch.

Her senior year of college is when she made it all happen. Before even graduating she got a job with a design company and then when she graduated she moved so she could take it. When the company was about to be sold and go out of business later that year she (with help with a big loan and my parents) bought it out and started her own) It is amazing to see where she is today from where she started out but I really do admire her!

Schumacher homes

Schumacher homes custom builder is a business that I haven't really heard much about. I looked online to find out more about them and I found that they really are a great valued company. Their motto is to combine custom with value which is something that you rarely hear about when dealing with a building company.

I worked for a building company over the summer that my aunt works for and it was actually a really fun environment to work in. Everyone was laid back and truly wanted the best for that client. What would happen was the client would call and they would set up a meeting and they would go over what the client was looking for and how they expected to use that room. Then the contractor would go to the site and check it out and take pictures. After that they would meet again and do pricing and quotes and go pick out everything and write up the blue prints. There is a huge blue print copier that I always used to copy the prints for the clients.

Over all it was a really great atmosphere because everyone had a different job and played a specific part in the making of a new room or the exterior of a home. One person would meet with the client and another person would draw up the prints and do the actual hard labor and another person would deal with pricing and quotes and yet another person would handle the decorating (my favorite part) and I got to do the paperwork and have the official signature meetings.

In the end though I learned a lot about working for a company and dealing with customers. This particular business really did have the client's interest at heart and taught me a lot about taking the time to get to know the client and what their likes and dislikes were to better help them make decisions. They didn't pressure the client into anything they didn't want to do and they made their companies name trustworthy with a great reputation. Although this line of work is probably not something that I am looking into getting in when I get out of college I have learned how to work with people and respect the clients and my fellow workers and that business isn't about scamming peoples and it can be successful with honest and caring workers.

Economy today and credit cards

Credit card counseling is something that I believe is going to become very popular soon. I feel like you should have to go through some sort of course or at least a lecture of some sort before you are able to qualify for credit. With our economy where it is at today, we know that people are being careless with credit cards and running themselves into debt. While prices were going up and that may have been some peoples only option, other were just careless.

I feel like credit card counseling is going to be necessary now. With so many people in debt and not knowing what to do, we need someone to come in and take their hand and pull them out of that whole and tell them step by step what to do to get their lives and finances back on track.

I used to laugh at the idea of a financial advisor or planner. I really did think that they were a waste of money and time and that you should know yourself what to do with and how to manage your own money. But after taking my finance class this year (that is taught by a man who owns his own financial advising company) I have changed my mind a little. I think that people aren't always educated about what you can do to invest your money or plan for you and your family's future. With the help of an advisor to get your finances figured out, you could avoid problems that could lead you to credit card or other kinds of debt. You could be able to plan for the loss of a jobs or an illness in the family and be able to save. When I went to class and listened to different ways of saving money and planning, they were ways that I would never have thought of and I really do think that it would be helpful to at least maybe consult a planner once or twice to see where you are with your finances and where you could be. By doing this you are able to better your life and help protect and plan for your future.

By using prevention techniques beforehand we are able to save ourselves from the tragedies that families are facing now with foreclosures and debts and the nationwide bailout. We just need to take that extra step towards responsibility.

Diet pill for me

So after years of bashing diet pills and the people that take them, I am finally ready to shut up. I have decided that I am going to look into a diet pill that might work for me. The first thing I did was go online and look around to see what they have to offer. The problem is, that there is so much out there it is hard to really narrow any of them down. I did see an article about natural diet pills though and I have a feeling that those are the ones that I am leaning towards.

Don't get me wrong, I am still a very firm believer that if you want something you need to work hard for it. So as well as taking a diet pill or supplement, I plan on modifying my exercise routine and diet to fit into that equation. I feel like as long as I'm doing my best, a diet pill can help me along the way. But I would never take a pill and expect it to do all the work of exercising and eating right for me (which I think is a big problem with people now and their expectations).

So natural diet pills seem like the way I am going to go. When reading about them, the articles I have seen focus about you as a whole, which I like, instead of just the fat coming off of your body. It seems like a safe way to lose weight and still be healthy. There is a website that I really liked where you start at page one and you go from there. Every step of the way you are typing in information about what you eat, how busy your days and weeks are, how often you exercise and what you expect from the diet pill. This seems idealistic to me because it really is tailored to you as a person not just everyone out there. It's the same as a workout. One of my friends can run 2 miles a week and steadily lose weight, while I have been training for a half marathon and maybe dropped 3 pounds in a month or 2. The same goes for a weight loss pill. You need to make sure that it fits your needs and into your lifestyle and is healthy for it to be able to work for you as a whole.
