Acting auditions
I once read a fascinating book about auditioning. The author told, among many other stories, the story of how Barbra Streisand won her first part. At age 18 she marched into the audition half an hour late, slapped a piece of gum on the bottom of a stool, told the story of why she was late instead of giving a monologue, and then belted a song with her incredible voice and walked out. She got the role. Someone in management went to pull the gum off the bottom of the stool...and there was none. She'd fabricated the whole thing - improvised a part, basically.
That's what they tell you over and over about auditions. Theatre auditions, film auditions, it doesn't matter which or where: what casting directors want to see is boldness. Something that sets you apart. There are countless "crazy" audition stories of actors who did "wild" things in auditions and got the part. That's because those things are what makes you stand out from the hundreds of other actors auditioning. A girl who regularly sings "Mister Cellophane" from Chicago, a song written originally for a middle-aged man, also regularly gets cast when she does so. They don't want to see the same guy doing the same monologue from I Hate Hamlet thirty times at each day of their movie auditions. That's okay for auditions for teens, but if you're in the professional acting world, you're not going to get a second look. If these casting agents wanted to be bored out of their minds for hours a day, they would go into casting for baby modeling.
Yet actors, who are supposed to be so personable and creative, can be some of the shyest, and even some of the most conventional, people out there. It can be really hard for them to be bold, to do something that is non-traditional. That story about Barbra Streisand shouldn't be such a wild one, but it is. She shouldn't be such an anomaly - for the sake of all those bored to tears casting directors out there - but...she is.
Herbal tea
I got some pretty cool news today. Since I have been working at the tea shop for about two years now and have another two until I finish my degree, they have agreed to make me manager starting in the fall. I will be spending the summer doing all of my managerial training before I really get the keys to the back door starting next fall. It's so great that they have asked me to do this. Aside from the fact that I feel that I am the best employee in there, I don't know how they set me apart from the other employees enough to think that I would make a good manager. My boss told me that I will be working about sixty hours a week training over the summer so in the fall I will only need to be there for opening and closing of the shop. In the mean time I need to learn all of the ins and outs of the shop, especially the wholesale tea ordering. So far I haven't gotten too involved in the ordering process beyond whether I should get a green tea or an oolong tea, but I just do that myself. I also have to get acquainted with the sellers of our particular herbal teas, because we get them from a bunch of different tea sources depending on which one we are getting at the time. I will also have to learn a little bit of economics. Since the owner of all three shops in town basically just stays out of the way now unless he's training managers, it's the managers that have to worry about the prices and the profit margin. I will have to be pretty quickly schooled on the mechanics of foodservice tea. Since the shop I work at also sells foodservice iced tea to the university, I have to also manage those prices. I am thinking this is going to be a really cool summer. I will be working so much, but it will be doing something I really love. Plus, I will have a huge resume boost with my two years as a foodservice ice tea manager. I really hope that last point can get me a teaching job.Tea is awesome!

Backgammon
As part of my degree in computer sciences, I have the option, which I have taken, to take some of my course online. Some of the courses are just simple programming courses that are meant to just reinforce and slowly introduce new concepts in to our repertoire for future classes that will build on them. There are also electives that can be taken online that actually can count as part if my major. Of these classes that I am taking now is all about the history of gaming. It is basically a history analysis of the development of statistical and strategic games. We began by looking at all of the types of online gaming that is now available and how these venues have shaped our way of approaching the future games that we as programmers may want to develop. The next step was we went way back to the beginning of games to when strategic games were just really meant to keep the mind sharpened for war. The game that struck me the most in this lesson has been backgammon. I didn't't know much about the game before this class but now it has begun to grow on me as I have been playing it more and more. The game originated in the middle east and in northern Africa around three thousand years ago approximately. Not much is really known about the rules of the game at the time, but the layout was quite similar to what we see today. The game that we really know now developed out of the Roman influence in the first and second centuries AD. These games really became standardized because of their popularity among the Emperors and leaders of all sorts. The closest versions of online backgammon that I could find, to these early versions, are known as Acey-Duecy and Puff. These versions all start out with players rolling dice to begin each piece entering on to the game board. Though these early rules have trickled down from the past, many version have developed because of the games dissemination throughout the rest of the world. Natural variations have occurred between different countries' versions of backgammon.
italy
A friend and I took an amazing trip all over Europe last year. We went to England, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Spain, Germany and Italy. We were gone for 6 months and spent a year prior to the trip planning it. I had gotten an inheritance from my Grandmother, and decided that it would be a great opportunity to see the world, before beginning my studies at NYU.
Needless to say, we enjoyed all of Europe. It was fun to drive from the passengers side of the car and to drive on the wrong side of the road. If you have never been on the Autobon in Germany, you must go. It is scary to say the least. I thought I was a fast driver but when you are doing 90 and cars are flying past you it is a bit weird.
Spain was beautiful and probably had the best food out of any of the countries we stayed in. England was interesting, but a little boring for me. I didn't like Ireland, although it was really beautiful and the people were really nice.
My friend absolutely loved France. Well, let's face it the shopping in Paris was incredible. We almost fell over, no literally. We had so much fun in Paris, we were hesitant to leave but I really wanted to see Venice Italy and so I pushed her out of there and off we went.
Well if you have never been to Venice, you must go. They say that Venice is really just a group of islands put together and hence why all the canals and gondolas. Well, gondolas are awesome. We actually were accompanied on our gondola ride by two very handsome Italian men who took us out for drinks after. I was a most amazing evening. We stayed in Venice about 10 days, but I don't think even then that either of us were ready to leave. Italy villas and Italy apartments are very comfortable and accommodating, and our villa had a beautiful view. We just couldn't get over how reasonable it was to stay and how magical it was to be there! We were told that we should check out the Sardinia apartments and Sardinia villas, but we didn't have enough time to get to the island and check it out. We promised each other that we will go again in exactly 10 years. By then we should be more settled (lol).
marriage counseling
I think I need some marriage help. I'm only 22 and I think that I've already gotten in a bit over my head. I know I love my wife, but sometimes I think that we might've married a little too young. Who knows. We were high school sweethearts, went to college together, and married right when we got out. A lot of people doubted that we would make it this far, but we made it, and now... now it seems like everything's taken a turn for the worse. All I know is that I would do anything to save my marriage, but I just can't think of anything else to do. We have gone to all of our friends to see what they think, but none of them really have the insight and experience that we were looking for... most likely because none of them are married yet or have even considered settling down. I guess the next step to take is to try marriage counsleing. I used to think that marriage counselors and therapists were all for people who don't have the common sense to get things done themselves, but yeah... now that I'm here, I can see how hard it is to work things out sometimes. Having an outside, unbiased opinion helps sometimes, and in hindsight I know that we probably should have gone to a counselor sooner. Sure, friends are helpful, but they've definitely got biases and like I said before, don't have the insight or experience to really give us the right advice we need. I'm pretty sure that getting marriage counseling from a certified counselor or therapist would be much better, especially since they have dealt with these problems before. Sigh. I'm actually starting to feel much better about this now. I guess that all we have left to do is make that phone call and take some time to talk with a great mediator. I think it's worth it. We still love each other, after all. We've just hit a low point and need some help out of it. Time to go tell my wife I love her and we'll just have to hope for the best.
debt free
I am so glad I made the decision to come to college. I have lived all over the country and have tried out many different things to interest myself. I've worked as a farmer, a woodworker, a chef, and so many other failed attempts as rewarding careers. After all of those careers I have managed to secure for myself a sizable debt. That is one of the driving factors, including my love of poetry, for coming to college and study English. The decision was more about my love of words than the money, but the ever-growing pressure for debt consolidation and a way out of it all, drove me straight back to school where I belong. I remember when I was working as a farmer and I would spend all of my time with the other guys picking or on the tractor by myself. The plots we were working were quite large and the volume of work so large, we didn't have much time for talking. I remember one day towards the end of the season, I thought about how little I had talked over the past year, and how much I had read. All of my creative ideas that I lifted from the texts I loved so much, were becoming stagnant. This was my last job before I came to college and I had loved it more than other job I'd had before. If I could be a small farmer and publish my writing, I would. Unfortunately I was so uninformed on debt consolidation that I was becoming closer and closer to broke every month. So I had to make the choice and now I am here. I have always been a sucker for hard labor and getting my hands dirty with work, so school is a big change for me. I work as a cook right now, but it is nothing compared to amateur chef in New York style of work. Though I am starting to like the feeling of coming home from work or school and not being totally exhausted. After only one semester I know that I made the best possible decision from what I was given at the time. I need to be debt free.
elementary secondary schools
With my fourth semester rapidly approaching, I must decide pretty quickly, where I am going to do my internship. For all education majors, you have to take this class in your fourth semester in which you go to a school for the age group you wish to teach and observe the workings of the classroom. Around here there are plenty of different private elementary schools so the elementary education majors have it pretty easy. For me it has been a bit more difficult finding a secondary school that is both appealing for me based on the description, and the willingness of their staff to accommodate my intrusion twice a week for four months.
Once I have my internship done, I will basically be spending my last year of school learning strictly the content knowledge. Meeting the requirements for my minor will be the hardest part because my grades can't ever go below a B plus average at any point after I have began the process. So after the fall, I will have two semesters of almost solid history classes. Which to some people I talk to seems like the most boring time they can imagine, for me it is like a vacation from all of the classes that I take, and don't really want to take. I will actually be totally done with the minor after the spring, but my last semester will be the last classes I need for the major in social studies education.
The other thing I really have to worry about is keeping my name on the dean's list. Before I said that my grades can't slip to keep my minor. Well obviously the same can be said for the dean's list because I need my grades to be amazing and almost perfect to get that. I haven't had much trouble staying on the list so far, but I do feel that my schedule is just making everything so hard for me that it may become a problem. Now I have to work twice as hard at my job because my scholarship is up and I am out of money. It's all just this big crazy juggling act that I seem to do so well.
left hand drive car
The university I am currently attending offers a pretty cool program during the winter semester. However, only certain people are qualified and able to participate in the program. In fact, these students have undergone an intensive application process and months of waiting. Students who are in good academic standing, have sufficient credits and are also members of the foreign exchange program can travel for classes in the United States. It doesn’t cost anything as a member of the program. There is an agreement between my school here in Europe and our sister school in America. The agreement was developed some two years ago. An American student will come to live with my family and spend three weeks attending classes and touring the country, while I will do the same with their family in the United States. I am excited because I enrolled in the program last year and finally received notice that I was accepted to travel for the six-credit course to be held in January. I have never been overseas. It will be a big adjustment for me. One thing I am looking forward to while I am visiting is to get behind the wheel of a left hand drive car. It sounds funny, but I think it will be very confusing to drive one of them. I would certainly imagine that I will first have to practice in a used left hand drive to make sure I can drive on the road properly. I am afraid I would cause damage to a new car. It is a good thing to first let me drive a used lhd in an open parking lot. It was difficult enough when I first started driving in Europe. So it is going to be quite an adventure to basically relearn how to drive on the other side of the road. I hear people drive very recklessly over in America, too. The opportunity to visit a foreign county is definitely worth the extra work I have put into my education. This is definitely a great opportunity before me. Thankfully, I have found a subject that intrigues me. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing comparable to visiting other countries and experiencing their cultures firsthand. Hopefully, I will return from my trip with a greater appreciation and a better understanding of the world around me.
compare hotel rates
Today we we have been buried under a mountain of snow. All of the schools are closed, classes canceled, and roads covered in a thick coating of ice. Fortunately I finished all of my school work about two days ago and now I am completely caught up in all of my classes. The only thing I really have to do today is to kill time until tomorrow when we will have classes again. I will probably spend the entire day doing what I have been meaning to do but have yet to get around to doing; planning my trip for the end of the semester. My project for today has been to make my hotel reservation and have a broad idea of what I want to do on my summer trip. I need to spend some time to compare hotel prices to try and find the really good hotel deals. It’s actually kind of good that we have off today because if I am comparing hotel rates this far in advance I will surely get the best deals possible. www.hotelscombined.com seems to have some good information, so far that is my favorite site to use. The only problem is, I can’t quite decide where I want to go this year. I mean it would be really cool to go to any one of the places on my list but I will most likely choose Australia. My friends live in Sydney and I have been trying to get there for years to see them and to go surfing down there. I used to want to be a professional surfer before I came to college, but the east coast is a bit more shy in terms of waves than Southern California. Even with that goal put on hold for right now, it will probably influence all of my vacation planning for the rest of my life. Australia has always been at the top of my list on places to surf ever since I surfed the north shore in Hawaii. While I was there I met a local guy who said that the only place he had ever surfed that was quite as amazing a surf spot as this, is Australia’s west coast. Now I am just totally ready to hit the waves and feel the sun, even though all I see is white snow and icy blasts breathing it all down the street.
debt consolidation
All right, so much about debt consolidation. Debt help is obviously very handy when it comes to paying a lot to all the various creditors, but what if when you pay various amounts to all the different ones, you are able to do that since you might have paychecks coming from various sources, but what if you have used bill consolidation and now have to pay the huge sum of money all at once? That might become very tough. One big thing that scares me personally is that what are some possible pitfalls that I might encounter, for example, if I consolidate? I mean, I have already – I have combined balances from two of my credit cards onto one – but it has not been that long ago, so I still do not know how that is going to play out. The big number that I now have to pay all at once scares me. I mean, I am a student and do not have a constant, full time, source of income. I have some ideas for possible businesses that I can get involved in, but I do not even have time to think about those and put those to life. So, here I am, paying a lot and earning little. Maybe little. Maybe it just seems little to me. I mean, I love what I do and I am satisfied with the results…financially…and morally…I am sure that there are a lot of people out there who make much less and have much greater financial responsibilities…but, as I have said before, there never seems to be enough money, and the more you spend, the more you want to spend. I experience this when I study something as well – the more I study, the more I realize that, first of all, there is so much more out there on the topic that I could study, and, second of all, the more I am able to take in, process, think of, etc. It just seems that life consists of certain patterns that persist and that can be applied to a lot of different things in a lot of different walks of life. Interesting.

vacation rentals
One of the biggest challenges I come across when I am trying to plan a vacation for my family and a couple close friends of ours is a rental home that is big enough, but reasonable in cost. Most people want to charge you a fortunate for using their homes as vacation rentals. I guess it is not such a bad deal when you have several people splitting the cost, but it is something to think about when planning a trip. Also, for the past couple of years, we have planned our trips later in the summer to accommodate the drastic increase in rental cost for many of the vacation beach homes along the coast. I just can not see paying six or seven thousand dollars to rent a home for a week. That place would have to be an absolute mansion with every amenity I could possibly think of and want to make my stay truly memorable. It is always a long and tedious process to find the right place and then get everyone to coordinate there schedules to find the week that works best for everyone. It is no sense trying to plan a vacation and then struggling to find a suitable time when my family and friends are going to be available to miss work and stay at the beach for a week. That is the one part about vacations that I wish did not exist. It stinks that you have to spend so much time planning for the trip. You are so exhausted from the phone calls and the research that you need a vacation from your vacation. Next year, I am going to pass the reigns of this vacation operation over to my younger brother. He is in college and should have plenty of time to plan a vacation especially since he knows that he is not paying for anything. My younger brother and three of my seven cousins are the easiest to accommodate because they do not have to worry about missing work. Also, since they are in college, they have a ridiculously long summer break which gives them plenty of time to go on vacation.
office furniture
I’m really excited. Finally the search for a new home is complete. It was a long journey. My wife and I have been searching all summer to find a new home. It is a pretty exhausting process and takes a lot of effort and patience. The two of us could never seem to agree on which house we liked most. It was always something different. One time it was the layout of the kitchen and then the next it was the size of the yard. Yet three weeks ago, the wait finally ended. We found our dream home; it only took eliminating fifteen previous houses and expanding our location search. Almost immediately we knew it was the one. The kitchen was just like my wife wanted and the backyard was big enough to throw around a baseball. It technically is not ours until after the settlement date, which is still about thirty-five days down the road, but for all intensive purposes I am going to indulge myself and say it is our new home. The feature I like the most about the new home is the main level library. For work, I need to have an office at home. I travel a lot, but for the most part, I accomplish business from home. My wife and I agreed that we would have to build an office if necessary, but thankfully our need is met in this home already. The seller is offering to leave the corner computer desk and several items I would considered to be discount home office furniture. I have modern office furniture that is more contemporary office furniture to use. We will just move those items in from our apartment in the city. The discount office furniture that currently is in the home is very old and has been well used. I would much rather use the newer and nicer furniture my wife and I bought only a few years ago. Besides, we spent a good amount of money on those items from gifts we received from our wedding. The house is three stories and has four bedrooms. We hope in the near future to have children; although, we are still debating on the number. Before we got married, we agreed to move from the city. A family will soon be on the way and we want to raise our children in a suburban atmosphere.
wedding invitations
I realize now why people pay others so much to plan their weddings. Who knew this crap would be so crazy? I’m helping a friend with her wedding stuff and she’s barely past the engagement and I’m already starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I’m just a helper, too! She’s already made all of the wedding announcements and now she has to figure out how many people to invite and who they should be. Helping look at wedding invitations isn’t so bad, though. You look at nice looking cards and try and narrow down one that’ll fit with the theme of your wedding and represents you pretty well, I guess. The website where they’re going to get their wedding stationery from is really nice. They have all of their wedding invitations and stuff separated into different categories such as elegant wedding invitations, etc. All very nice and chic. Surprisingly, they are also pretty cheap, too! Compared to other places we’ve looked, the prices on this site are phenomenal. They also have ways for you to customize your wedding invitations by adding things like ribbon and stuff like that, which is nice. This is actually a little more stressful than choosing catering and such, but it seems pretty easy to do online and it helps that you can access it 24/7, as opposed to having to go to only one or two caterers a day and having to sample everything they have and then narrowing it down even further. Eep. The nice thing about helping her out with the wedding invitations, tastings, and all of that is that she said I could put one or two things I really want on her registry, hahaha. How sweet is that? Very. That, and I get first dibs on unwanted presents! The possibilities alone are enough to get me moving. Hopefully someone will give them a 60” HDTV that they don’t need. In 1080p. Yep. Other than that, I guess I’d settle for some kitchen stuff. Knives are fun to play with. Anyways, gotta go back to looking at those kooky wedding invitations. See ya.
wellness
As companies large and small struggle to control rising healthcare
costs, many of them are coming to the conclusion that prevention is
not just a viable – but a preferable solution. Increasingly, corporate
wellness programs are being seen by employee benefit managers as
the key that unlocks the door to reduced healthcare costs.

Instead of benefit cuts, companies are discovering that it makes sense to invest a few dollars in promoting better health, and a major part of this effort involves devising educational wellness programs that help employees make better choices through diet and other healthy choices.
A wellness program doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective, but the benefit to your company can be dramatic and have wide-reaching effects. Let me give you an example. For a very nominal fee, you can take measures as simple as screening for high blood pressure or diabetes. Early detection doesn’t cure these problems, but knowledge is power, and simply knowing early on that there is a problem can permit an employee to make lifestyle modifications that can help mitigate the effects of the disease.
Wellness can be good fun as companies can encourage employees to take walks around the parking lot during lunch breaks, quit smoking, or even try healthy new recipes. Wellness programs are all about promoting better lifestyles, so the solutions don’t have to be bitter pills; to the contrary, these choices can trigger the sweet sound of money in the coffers of companies implementing these healthy programs.
As employee wellness programs grow in popularity, health care claims drop, employee satisfaction and morale improve and companies begin to see employees taking fewer sick days. Fewer sick days mean marked rises in productivity, which triggers an increase in profitability and shareholder satisfaction.
If you want to put a spring in the step of your employees, consider implementing an employee wellness program as one of several ways of improving health, saving money, and adding to the life expectancy of your workers. You can get quotes from multiple wellness companies at Wellness Quotes.
mind mapping
The best way to control your flow of ideas and thoughts when sitting down to begin writing a paper, specifically a research paper, is to plan ahead. It is best to get all of your brainstorming on paper so it’s readily accessible and you don’t forget anything that you will want to include in the finished work. Mind mapping is a great tool to accomplish this task. Organization and idea management are keys to successfully preparing yourself to begin writing. In using this technique, students and scholars alike can each write effectively and present a well-defined and prepared argument within the paper. The first thing to do is determine the key word to centrally focus the diagram around. Then, the next step is to generate supporting and connecting information around the given word. This allows you, the writer, to prepare the strongest and well-built influx of information which will consistently defend and back-up the central word in which everything else will revolve around. This is the essential element to making mind mapping a valuable asset time and time again when working on a paper. It is basically a fancy word used to describe a way to develop a workable structure that is not overly difficult to understand. The diagram is designed to achieve an often difficult task in a simplistic way. If done properly, there’s no question that the paper will contain proven connections between various aspects which have one main element in common: the central word. In a similar, however, more basic level, this tool is considered a word web. When working on the paper, it will be increasingly easier to avoid weaknesses in content if you follow the visualization of the diagram drafted and edited earlier. Often times a writer forgets the central theme of the work and provides examples and concepts that do not readily reflect connections to the main idea which is supposed to be constant throughout the paper. This tool, on the other hand, enables the writer to immediately check and recheck the links between each new idea developed and used to create support for an argument. There will be less and less unnecessary and useless information contained within a paper if adequate and well-developed brainstorming is incorporated at the beginning of the writing process.
dmv florida
So, as I keep thinking about the Florida traffic schools and all the Florida DMV’s, and all, I actually set my mind to find the real differences between the CA driver rules and the Florida Drivers’ Handbook. At first site, they look the same, with the exception, as I mentioned before that Florida calls the driver’s permit the Florida Learner’s permit. Honestly, I think that this name is more correct than the CA one, since, to me, the word “driver” means that the person already has a driver’s license, be that Florida drivers license or California one, or whatever. And it seems that it is comparably easier or harder to pass the Florida driving test. As far as the online education, Florida online traffic school has a four-hour driver’s proficiency class that costs $100…or so…Florida traffic school seems to work the same way like the California traffic school, only that it seems to me that in Florida, a driver can also get an 18% refund for the amount of the ticket fine, in addition to not having a point on the license, and no increased coverage on the insurance. I honestly do not know how this works in California – I have honestly (promise!) never gotten a speeding ticket in my life (as to not jinx myself). I am pretty sure though that a person cannot get a partial fine refund here…I think that here, the driving school only takes care of the point on the license, and not the money part of it. The maximum number of times that a person can do the traffic school though is only five per lifetime (in Florida)…only five! So, technically, if a person gets a speeding ticket every year, then the driver can only do the traffic school for five years, and not more…and what if a person gets a speeding ticket on the sixth year? Sometimes, these tickets totally depends on these stupid drivers, like the one that was trying to park when I was still totally behind her…And she does not get penalized, it is you who does…Then, I guess, too bad…ugh!
credit card online
Recently I bought my cousin a new mp3 player with my credit card online. We are both big music lovers and it was his parents that actually bought me my first CD player when I was a kid. He had been asking me to get him this present since his birthday last year but I was a bit simple minded last year and got him the wrong gift. I promised him that I would get him one this year, no matter what. I spent a whole month searching the web with him for the perfect one. I was so surprised that there were so many differences between the different types of mp3 players. Personally I have been a bit reluctant to engage technology like mp3s because I am one of those purest who think records are the perfect recording method. He's only fourteen so he knows more about these types of things than me, but he also seemed like he was in a bit of a daze as well. When we finally decided on one and I used my online credit card because I get cash back on electronics, and he got it two days later.
When he called me I was so excited to hear that he loved it or that it was better than he had expected. I was sorely disappointed. He told me that when he took the player out of the box, it wouldn't turn on no matter what he did. He told me exactly what the manual said and I decided, thinking myself an amateur technology expert, to come over and look at it myself. After I got there it took me five minutes of playing with the little black player with the big flat screen before I got out my laptop. I went right to my online credit card account and looked for the help-line listed on the purchase. I called and after another twenty minutes and reciting my credit card online order number about a hundred times, they said they would replace it right away. So again we were left waiting for another two days for the little player to come. When it finally arrived, we held our breath right up until the little screen lit up and smiled up at my smiling face.
six sigma
Recently, I have been spending a lot of time online researching methods and processes that can be used to help my father’s company save money and reduce inadequate areas that are not working properly, if they are even working at all. In owning an advertising agency, there are many times when his company is limiting its growth because it is not spending usefully. Often it seems there are areas of the company that are flawed in many ways and as a result are pits that keep spending money without returning profitable gains. I came across a website in my research that focuses particularly on this issue. Six sigma is a process that helps identify areas of a company that have deficiencies through statistical analysis. This allows for resources to be taken from areas that are not producing and then be placed in alternate areas where they can achieve optimal results. I feel this is the best way to help my father’s company grow. I know he does not want to continue spending money if it is not going to make him more money. It is obviously not a practical way to run a company. Therefore, after going over this marketing process with him, he has decided to make it mandatory for all employees to enroll in courses at six sigma online. Everyone will be required in the next year to achieve at a minimum the requirements to be certified as a six sigma green belt. To help make this easier on his employees and to ensure it is done correctly, he is going to schedule work days in the classroom. There will be two a month and employees will participate in workshops. However, people who are at this time working in any financial segment of the company must reach certification equal to that of a six sigma black belt. He wants his employees to incorporate the principles behind this process instinctively. It is important to have each employee aware of this process and receive some course training. This way he can be assured everyone in the advertising agency knows how to use this process. The goal is to have a positive impact on how the company is organized and managed. And, without saying there is the expectation that fiscal quarterly reports will improve as well. I have done my research on this topic and I am excited to see the results it produces for my father in the future.
foreign exchange
The spring semester is now three weeks old and I am so happy to be back. My breaks always make me feel horrible when I do go back to school. I am a school person. I just love to spend my time studying and learning new things and views through which I can view the world and try to make it a better place. I am so excited this semester because I changed roommates in the dorms and I have a new roommate from India. Sohan is a really great guy. He is just like me in that he loves to study and loves expanding his world view and every spare moment we have had these last three weeks, we have spent them talking about eachother's culture. Sohan is a brand new transfer student and he has never been to America before this month. I was most interested in his lengthy descriptions of the city where he grew up, Benares. He really wanted to talk about what it was like growing up and what kinds of traditions my family had. I could tell he was a bit disappointed that we didn't have ones that were quite as interesting as the ones he performed back in India. I was also quite taken when we finally got to discussing things like economics because he was here to study business and found this topic quite livening. I told him about our wage and human rights laws for the workplace. He got on the topic of foreign exchange and told me about the state of india's currency, the rupee. He talked to me about how low the money exchange rates were when he came in to the country that he basically had to ask for twice as much from his parents as they had given him when he arrived. He told me that this means when he goes back to India with his American dollars and has to do his foreign exchange there, the money exchange rates will work so much in his favor he joked he'd be a billionaire. It is conversations like these that I can now look foreword to for the rest of the semester with my new roommate Sohan.
personal injury attorney
Having two parents that are accident
attorneys but they like to joke that mother is an car
accident lawyer They work a lot and they both work very hard
at what they do, and find it almost impossible to keep their work out of
our
house. One great example of how much of their work comes home
is a
project I did as a freshman in high school. I was asked to
write a
position paper and to take the perspective of someone else
in the world. I
decided, of course, to take the view of a personal
injury lawyer in New
York and I proceeded to explain
the entire code of injury
attorney every night at dinner.
When the time came for
me to decide what I wanted to do for
college, I rebelled by trying
out new things. I first tried to think of
myself as an artist
and painted like a madman for weeks on end. My parents
were
both very supportive of my decision and said whatever I wanted to
do
was fine by them. Being the rebellious teen I was, it made me even
more
upset that they didn't care what I became. I spent a couple of
weeks
trying to decide what would be the one thing I could become to
freak
my parents out. When I finally felt like I was just going to become
a
bum, I got a letter in the mail. It was from the same school my
parents
had gone to, and the only one I had actually applied to. The
letter
said I had been accepted to the program to become a licensed New
York
personal injury Lawyer. I was so happy that I
ran down to tell my
parents. My father immediately began calling me
his little New
York personal injury attorney.
premium tea
I have always been infatuated by the culture of Asia. Since I was a young child I loved Japanese poetry, Chinese art, and India's religions. I have been a yoga teacher, tried to learn Japanese for a bit, and currently I work in a tea shop. The Organic tea shop and liberal bookstore, has been the culmination off all of my independent studies. It's like a dream come true. I spend all of my work day brewing fresh premium teas and discussing different books that we have laying around the store. Most of the books in the store are ones that I have seen in other stores and my mouth started watering. Now, when the shop is empty and I have caught up on all of my work, I set myself up with a hot green tea and a brand new book. Usually I finish about a book a week, except for the larger religious texts of the Buddhists or one of the many bibles we have is stock. It's also amazing because whenever one of these new books comes in, I feel like a monk getting a new lesson from his master as I pour over every page and then look for someone to discuss it with. Another great part of my job is all of the free tea. Before I worked here I was already a bit of a tea lover. Now that I have been working at the tea shop for about a year, I have become somewhat of a tea snob. I love trying to discuss the differences between black tea and white tea to customers in the most fluid words I can pull out that particular day. I have gotten so good that I can tell from any one of my senses, other than taste, what type of tea is in any glass in the room. Just one of the many useless skills you develop when you are immersed in something you love to do so much. I have also been allowed to teach yoga classes in the reading room after hours, which has made this shop just a hair short being my home. All I need now is a bed in the back.
project management software
In San Francisco the tech community is quite a
tight knit
community. Since the technology boom of
the nineties, San
Francisco has been the place to be
if you want to start up or network
a new web based
community or project. I grew up right outside of the
city
and went to college right here in the city for
the newest major the
art institute had to offer,
graphic design. When I told my parents
that I had
chosen graphic design as my major, they looked at me
like
I was from another planet. They had never seen a
computer, and if I
had brought one to their house,
they probably would have thought it
was a new tv even
if I tried to explain what it was.
I
wouldn't go so far as to say that I shared my
parents' fear because I
knew about the small burst of
life in the new industry and had not
wasted any time
after college jumping straight in to the job market.
This
was a time when the idea of a network was still
foreign to most
people outside of the business world.
I got a job designing project
management software for
a large company. I worked in
between the giant Mac
and Windows giants to try and design a new project
management
software that would allow for the vast
networks that we
have today in every major
corporation. The work we were doing then
has since
shaped the way that every single business on the
planet
functions in the digital world. Some of our
recommendations
have since been used in the design of
programs for all of the major
software companies, and
we were working out of a four room commercial
office
in San Francisco. That seems to be a common theme in
the
digital world; the biggest companies or ideas,
grow out of the most
unbelievable places. Now our
ideas allow for solely web
based project management
and the idea of remote project
tracking. These are
tools that seem common to us
today, but when I was
just starting out, they were fanciful ideas
that the
idealistic ones in the office had kicked around at the
water
cooler. It's weird to look at any computer and
say that if it
weren't for me, that would be a
different picture.
sacramento apartments
Now that I have finished my education, I am ready
to make that
next step. I graduated with a degree in
secondary education because I
wanted to help people,
and now I find myself having to think of only
myself
for a little while. In this country right now
teachers
are in high demand, so I basically had a pick
of most places in the
country. Now I always wanted to
teach in high poverty areas,
but since graduating
college, I have come to realize a strange and
ironic
truth; I am now living in poverty because I own eighty
thousand
dollars. So I decided that my first job,
until I had enough
money to afford teaching in poverty
areas, would be in a place that I
always wanted to
live. California was my first choice and I knew that
Sacramento
was my favorite city in the whole state.
The sensibility seems to
just appeal to me because in
Sacramento it's like got the California
sensibility,
but it's also has a bit more reality than L.A.
The
next thing I knew, I was looking for downtown
Sacramento
apartments.
I began my job search by talking to the
schools in
Sacramento to find out what schools had need for new
teachers.
There were several schools that had an
opening and I applied to
each one. I did have one
favorite in mind which was a small
private free school
that was known for having somewhat of a radical
staff
of teachers. All of them were known and actually
encouraged
to be social and educational activists.
This was the most exciting of
all of the schools
listed in the districts. When I got the call back
from
two others schools I was very excited to have
gotten offers, but I
was a bit disappointed that that
school had not jumped at my resume
which included four
years of college activism and a mug shot from a
sit-in.
Without accepting any, I told them I would
make a decision in
two weeks. Then I began to look for
apartments
in Sacramento. It only took me about two
days of
having landed and toured about ten Sacramento
apartments,
that I had a place to live. Now I was
finally ready to sit down and
make my decision of
which school I would choose.
prevage md
This year christmas was exceptionally great for
everyone.
Usually the christmas experience is the
most stressful time of
the year for everyone in our
family. It is one of two times of the
year where we
all get together under one roof and actually try to
spend
time in the same room together. The meal is
always planned by
my wife and I am given the role of
daycare operator for the children
of the family. At
least once in the day the fire alarm goes off
and my
father-in-law comes stomping through the house
screaming
every four letter word in the book before
pulling out the batteries
of every alarm in the house.
For my day I usually end up holding
three crying kids
at a time and getting beaten senseless by the mass
of
small children who turn on me at the drop of a toy.
The morning
is usually the most peaceful because we
are all still waking up and
sipping hot coffee while
the kids all slowly creep closer and closer
to the
tree. When the signal finally comes from my
mother-in-law
saying it's ok to start opening
presents, there is a sudden flash of
light like a bomb
dropping and then shreds of paper go flying until
all
of the children's' presents lay bare on the floor.
Usually
it's my presents to people that need to have
the receipt in the
wrapping. This year I decided I
would skip past that awkward
phase of the holiday by
forgetting about the money and getting all
the men
sports Jerseys and all of the women cosmetics. I got
the
older women in the family some Prevage
MD skin
cream and a clarisonic.
I didn't hear any objections
by any of the younger women who
all got a spa gift
certificate with some scented lotion. My
inspiration
for these two gifts came from my in-laws who love two
things;
sports and spas. My
father-in-law has season
tickets for two separate football teams. My
mother-in-law
just got Fraxel Laser therapy to
clear
up her aging spots and spends every other weekend at
the spa.
houston real estate
My new job is in downtown Houston. I am currently
working as a
Physician's assistant at the Houston
Medical
Center. I couldn't have found a better job on
the
planet, I hope. See, aside from the fact that I
love my job,
and my downtown Houston
Condos, there
seems to be a bit of trouble brewing right
under our
noses here at the hospital.
One of the first
relationships I had to make when
coming to this hospital was with the
Chief of
Medicine, Dr. Erickson. He is a really great guy with
a
sly outgoing personality meant for a salesman not a
doctor. After my
first year of working together we
had developed a pretty good
relationship. One day I
was looking through the Houston
homes for rent section
of the newspaper when he walked up
and sat down beside
me on the bench. He struck up a conversation
about
Houston real
estate. He told me about when he bought
his first Central
Houston real estate. He recommended
various Houston
realtors that he had come across over
the years. He
suddenly paused midway through telling
me about his Houston
Heights real estate he just
bought and looked down at the
floor as if lost in
thought. Looking back up at me he had a sort of
stoic
and angry look on his face. Apparently, from what I
gathered,
the price for Houston
Texas Real Estate had
gone way up in the past few months.
This was good for
his own personal assets because they became
worth much
more. The problem came for the hospital. Dr.
Erickson
told me he had been planning to buy the
Houston
memorial real estate lot next door to the
hospital. It was
his plan to put in a new cancer ward
for research. Now the worth of
the Houston
Medical
real estate had risen but the only way he could use
any
of that new money would be to sell another part of
the hospital. He
was obviously very distressed about
the situation and seemed as if he
had been dealing
with the problem for quite a while. I hadn't even
known
that prices for Houston Real
Estate had gone up
at all because I moved from New York only a year
before.
eyelash extensions
My friends and I have had some pretty interesting jobs since we started college. I have worked at restaurants all over town and those were my favorite places to work. Right now I have a good job working as a phone operator for the college that I go to, but my last job was just a bit odd. I worked at this salon at the mall that hired me as the inventory and clerk. Once I started working they began to ask me to do other things that didn't require much experience. They would ask me to shampoo hair and to clean up the floor for the stylists. One day they asked me to do something a little bit odd. I was cleaning up the back room when they called me out. The customer sitting in the chair was a regular. She was one of our most flamboyant and bright customers. I remember every time she came in because it was like she brought a party with her wherever she went. When I walked up she greeted me as usual with a "hello dear" and a wink. My boss took me aside and told me that she had to go out for just a moment and get a stack of invoices that he had forgotten at his house down the street. He told me he needed me to help this woman with something I hadn't done before. Before she gets her haircut here, she always gets her nails, feet, and skin done by professionals. She had missed her facial appointment today and needed use to apply her eyelash extensions for her. I was a bit confused, I didn't know what eyelash extensions, or falsh eyelashes, were. He explained to me what the lash extensions were and showed me the eyeylash adhesive glue. After he left I put out all of the lashes on his tray and the eyelash adhesive. I did the whole job from beginning to end and she even tipped me when the job was done. That was the first and last time I ever had to do that and I really don't have any desire to work at a place like that again, even though putting on the lashes was kind of fun.
cheap flights
When I decided that I was going to take a year off when I was done
with school, you can only imagine my excitement. I mean I had twelve
years in school involuntarily. Then when that fiasco was all over, I
actually decided to go back to school, and pay for it. So there I was,
six years and sixty thousand dollars worth of debt. This where the
average person may say that they want to call it quits on the
adventurous stuff and start being a bit more conservative. No sir, not
me, I was ready to go anywhere. My only thought was, “I hope I can find
some pretty cheap
flights.”
When I was in college I did all the
usual college stuff. I went to class and studied hard. I partied and
went to all the sporting events. I also took one year and studied
abroad. I remember taking one of the student
flights to France.
It was my first of many international
flights, and my first of many flights
to Europe. I was intrigued by the world outside of this
country and needed now to fill this itch that didn’t worry about money
or politics as I had forced my self to do for six years. All this voice
wanted to do was go.
Now aside from my fanatical side that
demanded that I throw away all I had worked, and spent, for to travel,
there was still a side of me that knew I would have to set myself up for
some kind of big finish or at least a home at the end of the road. So
for what I call the second phase of my adult life, I allowed my
financial voice to tag along. I would try my best to get the cheapest airfares
to Europe or any of the other International
airfares that I bought that year. I turned it in to this
funny little game where I would see how cheap I could make it to fly
from one area of the world to the next, without ever breaking my bank of
course. I eventually found out that if I just flashed my student ID,
every airline would give me student
airfare. I almost burst out laughing the first time someone
handed me a ticket that year reading, “student
Flight” as I hadn’t been a student for about six months.
affordable health insurance
So since I have started my college career, I have been faced with
a lot of new kinds of decisions. I have had some that were defiantly
more exciting that others. Every day I am faced with questions that my
parents used to answer for me and that I took for granted. Eating, for
example, now lies solely on my back. For the last semester, there were
plenty of times where I would just forget to eat for a whole day. There
were also other days when I would eat way too much. These small,
sometimes trivial, decisions make up the bulk of what I have to decide
every day.
On the other hand, I do have a great deal of
responsibility that I didn't have before in areas that will affect my
life forever. When it come to really taking care of my finances, my educational
obligations, and even searching for affordable health insurance,
is now is my hands. Though I can call my parents whenever I feel like
it, these types of decisions are truly up to me when it really comes
down to it. Though the responsibility of finding, say, the most
affordable health insurance, is up to me, it is also important for me
not to get swept away in all of the decisions.
Though my
life at college has afforded me a great deal of freedom, it comes with
the price of dealing with this whole new field of responsibility.
Some days there is so much work that I have to get done in my school
work, I may forget some important paperwork, or phone call I should have
made. If I happen to make the wrong decision on something that costs me
extra money. These are the kinds of situations that add to my level of
stress. It is also my own responsibility to deal with this stress in
various ways. There are also times when things just work out. If I
find the most affordable insurance quotes, for example, that saves me
some money, then some of that stress is lifted. So with my
responsibility, also comes the rewards of the hard work.
obama
Barack Obama did great in the recent primary held in Iowa, I am so pleased and about who is going to nail the next primary. With Obama as the first black and Muslim presidential candidate that has seen such success, it probably won't be too crazy to predict the headlines. The more liberal states? "Obama New York, Obama California, Barack Obama Ohio, he just may win. I wonder how the local media in each state portrays him, he is so handsome and well spoken. I've seen plenty of coverage here about Obama in the news, but I wonder how the media portrays him as an individual in the various states. I'm sure there are differences between the northern and southern states - Texas Obama probably is not seen the same as Barack Obama Illinois. I would think that a media slant exists in the traditionally conservative states, he is going to win by a landslide in many states, even behind the scenes or in an unspoken fashion. Who knows, though, how Florida Obama differs from his reputation in other states. Florida is always one of the key states, a few years ago that big big deal was made in florida about Bush stealing the election from Gore. Hillary is going to win some of these states, but I personally would love to see her wear an Obama T shirt, how funny would that be? And in which states do we see more Barack Obama shirts on the streets? I have yet to see a Hilary shirt, but Barack obama shirts are out there, especially on campus.Obama is going to do very well especially if we can manage to sell lots of shirts, I want a.Barack Obama shirt so I can support the man that needs to defeat Hillary Clinton, she is not going to do anything good for our country and scares me.
prepaidcreditcards
The evolution of the gift card is a magnificent one! What was once a lame excuse for not knowing what to get a friend, the gift card has since then become so much more. The gift card was revolutionary for parents, as they no longer had to just let a child loose with a credit card and hope for the best – the gift card limited how much the kid could spend, and did so without the threat of physical abuse! From the gift card came the prepaid credit card, which is most likely taken directly from the hand of God. The prepaid credit card was (and is) superior to the gift card in that we were no longer limited to using it in one store – the prepaid Visa card is accepted wherever Visa is a valid form of payment! Not only is it convenient, it’s safe! These cards are all basically anonymous credit cards with a spending limit and no way to affect your financial situation after they have been spent. The prepaid Visa card is pretty much the most common gift I receive for Christmas/birthdays, and I don’t care at all. It’s great. Having an anonymous credit card is cool if you’re making some purchases you don’t want anyone to find out about, lol. Just saying. Seriously though, the prepaid credit card is an awesome gift. You can use it in pretty much any store and you can also use it online! I use it to buy games and clothes that I can’t find anywhere near where I live, so it helps out a lot. They also have virtual credit cards now, too! A virtual credit card works exactly the same as any other prepaid credit card, but you can buy them instantly online at sites like www.www-card.com and use them as soon as the payment to buy them goes through! If you want to send a prepaid Visa card to a friend living far away, just send them the information and they’ll have it instantly! No waiting for it to come in the mail – a virtual credit card is a much better alternative for such situations. Anyways, you can read more about this stuff somewhere else – I have some virtual credit card money to spend!
moving services
When I was a kid, like six years old, my family picked up and moved from California to Pittsburgh, PA. My mom grew up here, my dad’s from New Jersey; my dad lost his job as a teacher in Reading, CA, and they decided we needed to move closer to family. We did it, though, not in the way most normal families would do it. We drove.
There were no moving companies involved – well, minimally, my dad rented a U-Haul. But no serious comparing moving quotes, engaging moving services. There were no plane tickets. My dad was our moving company, driving the U-Haul containing the life of our family of five across the country in three days. (He killed the hamster along the way, accidentally. He forgot to give it water. Just another victim in my family’s long history of torturing and murdering rodents big and small.
My mom was our plane, our train, our Greyhound bus. She drove me and my two younger sisters from San Francisco to Pittsburgh over the course of two weeks. She was our travel agency too, booking stays with homeschoolers (we were all homeschooled at the time) in all the states we passed through, stopping with us to see the sights
Maybe I assume that’s not a normal way to move across the country because my family’s kind of odd, and does things the odd way, and I know that. But I think it must not be normal. Otherwise, moving companies would be out of business. It was probably part of the whole homeschooling thing: if we’re going to move across the country, then the kids are going to see the country, for Pete’s sake.
Did it work?
My most insistent memory from that trip is the time we stayed with a family (I don’t even know what state we were in at the time) that liked to go catch snakes at dusk. They let me hold one big non-poisonous sucker, and he bit me, of course. Another family had a nest of baby birds in a bush just outside the living room window. I remember being told not to touch the babies because their mother wouldn’t recognize their smell and would kick them out of the nest. And there are other little things.
In retrospect, I’d take my parents’ moving services over anyone’s, hands down.
weightloss
As we reflect on 2007 we can all look forward to 2008. The holidays are over and now we can all look forward to one last holiday of the year which is New Year’s Eve. This night is usually spent with family and friends having fun in various ways. Another tradition of New Years is making a resolution. As I look back on the years I don’t think I ever keep them, but still making a goal still means you acknowledged it right?
Over the years I have made various resolutions including the number one resolution of most people. That is to be healthier or lose weight. Now ever since I have been in college I have gained weight. At first it was just a little which was fine, but once I was in an apartment of my own forced to cook for myself I didn’t eat as healthy. I’m sure many college students make resolutions to be healthier as college can be a very anti healthy environment. Besides quitting smoking I think being healthier may be close to or is the number one resolution of most people around the world. Weight loss has been a resolution of mine in the past, but I usually end up forgetting about my resolutions after awhile.
The best way to actually attain a healthy lifestyle is to make is part of your daily routine to eat right and exercise, but I don’t usually end up having time. If you are in extreme need to lose weight it would be wise to use a BMR calculator. I think the calculator gives a real sense of the healthy concept behind weight loss. Also good resources are discussion forums, health stores, and more. Learning about weight loss fads and what about each of them work and don’t work is very interesting too, like Atkins.
Back on the subject of resolutions: I’m sure once the New Year approaches I will make a goal to be healthier again, and everyone else will start thinking of things they really want to achieve. But really we have to make realistic resolutions. As for me I will probably have to get a workout buddy to push me because if not I just end up being lazy!
Tuscany villas
Vacations are something everyone looks forward to taking. Some people stay at home and enjoy the local scenery while saving the cost of an expensive vacation. Others travel throughout the United States visiting family or friends or sightseeing. Many of the people make numerous trips around the United States, own campers. This enables them travel very inexpensively while still allowing them to visit with friends and family and visit new and unusual places.
Where and how you choose to travel is a decision which has to be made so that the planning stage of your vacation can begin. No matter what type of vacation trip you are preparing for, planning is a key first ingredient to insure that you will have an enjoyable vacation.
Every trip begins with the choice of a destination. This choice is usually based on what type of trip you want to take and your budgetary considerations. Once you have selected your destination, you will need to make arrangements to get to it. Will you drive, fly, take a train or travel by ship? There are many options and the mode of transportation will usually be determined by your destination. This is the first part of the planning stage for your vacation.
The second phase of the planning stage will relate to the type of accommodations you wish to make. Of course, if you travel by camper, it would be necessary to plan the location of campsites available on your route and at your final destination. If your budget is tight, you may want to stay at a local motel or hotel. Renting a condo is another option which is increasing in popularity as any additional cost is justified by the availability of preparing some of your own meal. Condos also provide larger square footage availability and separate bedrooms which is nice for families with children.
If your trip is taking you to Italy and you plan to visit Tuscany and Sicily, a variety of housing options are also available.
Tuscany apartments and Tuscany villas are wonderful choices for enjoying the local atmosphere and truly experiencing life in Tuscany. The same can be said of Sicily. Sicily villas and Sicily apartments are located in many different areas of the country and offer a large variety of options to the traveler.
Wherever you go, a well-planned trip will be an enjoyable vacation.
Dog beds
I have been spending all of my free time outside of class with my friend Anna who just got the coolest dog in the whole world. She lives off campus so she has the luxury of having a dog. Living in the dorms for two years now has made me realize how much I miss having a pet around. Although I am most certainly a cat kind of guy, I just can't help myself when a dog like hers comes around. Shepard is a three month old black lab puppy who should be one of those dogs you see in calenders. He is so much fun to play with because he loves guys and Anna doesn't like to wrestle with him. Whenever I come over now he just runs up to me and instantly expects to wrestle and bites my clothes to get me going. The other day I got to watch him and we wrestled for the first hour or so and then he took a rest. After his walk we went back and he fell asleep in the sun for a while; what a life. Anna left because she was going to pick out a dog bed for him. She wanted to get one that was going to last him for a long time and that would clean really easily. We have a friend who is a dog trained and she went to ask him what were the kinds of dog beds that he used in his business. When she came home the door slamming woke him up and he flew across the house. She showed him the bed for dogs but by the time he realized I was still there he was all over me again. Eventually he warmed up to the bed and fell right to sleep and he looked so cute I took about ten pictures of him. Now I am considering moving off campus in the summer so that I can get myself a dog because I can't keep mooching off of someones animal. Anyway, I have to get back to class and then back to Anna's house for my daily wrestling match.
Modeling auditions
Last week was spring break for our school and I went home for the week to see my family. I love going home any chance I get, but since home is two states away, it is only the long breaks that I feel it is really worth it to endure the hassle of travel. I left on friday after classes ended and I drove straight up to Massachusetts. When I got there after midnight everyone was asleep except my dad and he was just conscious enough to help me in to the house before we both went right to bed. The next morning I did the usual breakfast thing and we all talked about what we have been up to since Christmas break. It had been a whole two months since I had seen them last and a lot had happened. When breakfast had ended I decided to take my little brother to the mall and just have some time with him for a while. We talked in the car some more and he told about the work he was doping these days. My brother has always been really in to acting and modeling. Ever since he was like three years old he would dress up and perform the books our parents would read to us. He would also play dress up a lot and stand in front of the mirror in all of his clothes talking about fashion. Since I last saw him he had been getting ready for a bunch of auditions. He is a junior in high school and so he has acting auditions each spring for the next year. He also has annual modeling auditions which he does so that he can try to keep saving up for school. This year though he has one extra auditions he has been preparing for. The theater college he wants to go to has a summer program and they have their theater auditions about a month before the program starts. If he gets in to this program he is almost guaranteed admission to the school the next year. I just couldn't stop telling him how proud I am of him and all of his hard work.
Costa Luz
My parents are always vacationing. You know how you see those make believe kids on TV who spend all of their time with a Nanny and don't see there parents, except when they fly in from somewhere. Well, that was my childhood in a nutshell. My parents were in and out. Traveling with friends to the Orient or off the Switzerland to ski. Yeah, they would call me, but I don't think that they spent much time really thinking about or worrying about me. They were always very self centered, and quite frankly still are.
I am away at school right now, so I am really done with their whole scene. Half the time they aren't even home when I return from school break. Most of the time, I don't even know what country they are in. If I ever need to reach them, I can always call their housekeeper and she will let me know where they're at and how to reach them. It's a wonder I managed to survive my childhood at all.
I didn't travel with them much. I don't think that they really wanted to be weighted down with children, but there I was. I mean financially they were supportive, but emotionally I don't think they really know how to be, even now. I think they thought that kids were just dirty and messy and just couldn't be bothered with me.
Well, now that I am older, they think of me more as a friend, I think. They want me to travel with them to Costa Luz in Spain. They will let me bring my girlfriend which is really cool. I looked up this place on the internet and it seems like a really romantic getaway. I am just not sure that I want to do this with my parents. I mean I checked out the Chiclana Weather Station at Pago del Humo, Chiclana de la Frontera, Cadiz, Spain. The weather there should be really beautiful when we go. I know Costa Luz holiday rentals are beautiful and they offer self catering. The pictures are beautiful and it seems really scenic. And there is a nearby traditional Spanish village and an incredible shore line. There is nothing more romantic then a stroll on the beach at night.
I think I am going to go for it. It will only be for 2 weeks and I am sure that I can convince dear old mom and dad to get us separate accommodations from them, so that we can always escape them if things get too intense. Costa de la Luz here we come!
Exhibit stands
If your group or company is looking to do a fair or trade show, and it is there first time, then there are some things that you need to know.
When setting up an exhibit, you want to be sure and use something that is eye catching, something that attracts the people to your booth. Some companies use free gimmicks to get people in or raffles. Many use elaborate exhibition stands to draw attention to them. Some of them have bright colors and catchy logos and phrases. Some even use more sophisticated stand construction. For example an exhibition Germany that I went to used a trade show stand that lit up and talked about their products and services. It was really neat and a lot of people wanted to go up and push the buttons. This is a great way to draw the attention to you and your company. You just must make sure that while they are in there playing with the buttons, that someone is available to approach them and talk with them about your products and services. If not, they are more than likely just to push the buttons a few times and be on their way.
Exhibition stand design can be a very important aspect of drawing in the crowds, but equally as important are the people that you have manning your booth. You want to make sure that you use friendly, outgoing, bubbly people who aren't afraid to approach others and just begin chatting. If you have people with your company who don't have these characteristics, then be sure not to have them be the ones greeting your potential new customers. You can however, allow them to do the background work, such as helping with exhibition design. A fair stands can be difficult to choose, especially if you are on a budget, but if you and your colleagues shop around you should be able to find a good design at a reasonable price.
If your company does a lot of fairs and trade shows, and you are really looking to get your business flowing, then getting a great exhibition stand design will get you the results you need. It will get those customers in and then you can sell, sell, sell and your business will be growing again in no time!
Tattoo art
I am seriously thinking about getting a tattoo. A friend of mine just got a rose on her right breast and it looks amazing! I am a little afraid though. I just don't like the whole needle idea. I mean I really like the way they look, but I have heard that some people can get hepatitis. That would stink! I could just get a henna tattoo, but I really like the whole real tattoo look. My friend says it stung a little, but that it wasn't too painful. I am concerned she got hers on her breast which is all fatty tissue. I really want mine on the small of my back, which I think looks really good, but it seems that it might hurt more because it is more bony.
My friend says she will go with me, and that she wants to get one on her ankle this time. I just am not sure, maybe I am too chicken for this kind of thing. I think this is why many people get their tattoos while they are drunk. I guess if I did that, I might have more guts to go through with it. I keep thinking that if they start doing it and it hurts, I will tell them to stop and then I would have part of a tattoo. Now that would really look dumb. A lot dumber than no tattoo at all.
I have looked at a tattoo online gallery and found a tattoo design I really like. I know some people design their own, but I am not quite that creative. The one I want is of a butterfly. I don't want it too big, but it is sooooo pretty. It has a purply pink color wings and light blue for the body. It also has some swirlies coming off it to the sides. It is really gorgeous.
I think that most guys like tattoos on girls. They think they are sexy and a turn on. I don't know whether it is the fact of the picture, location, or just the fact that a girl that they're with would actually have the guts to go under the needle (especially, if they don't have one themselves).
Well, I think I am going to get it. All my friends think I should. Don't worry though, I will not be one of those people who tattoos my whole body or anything, that is a bit extreme. Just one butterfly tattoo design on the small of my back, and yes, I think I have decided to have a few beers before I go, just to insure that I don't back out before they finish.
Birthday cards
I would love to write greeting cards. I think there are so many that are just flat, or don't express quite what I am wanting to say. Like some of the cards are just funny. Well, some people just don't have a great sense of humor. I was shopping the other day for birthday cards. I like to buy them in advance, and then send them when the date approaches. I was looking through the little local card store and could find one that said anything nice without rhyming. I really don't like rhyming cards. I feel that they lack sincerity when they can be read to the tune of Jack and Jill or something. It has always been a peeve of mine, I'm not sure why.
Then I went to the card store at the mall and I still found very few cards that I really felt expressed true emotion. Well, I did finally settle on a few and thought, I could probably do this. I went home and jotted down a few ideas on paper. My friend thought they were pretty good. (or that is what she said anyway) How do you break into a business like that? I mean what do you do, just mail some ideas to the greeting card companies and hope they call? I'm really not sure how that process works.
People these days send cards for everything. There are the obvious ones like Christmas cards, birthday cards, and Thanksgiving cards. Then there are cards for getting a job, losing a job, getting married and even cards for getting divorced.
My favorite cards are the business Christmas cards and business birthday cards. These are the cards that businesses send you for different holidays. I remember growing up my father always got a Christmas card and birthday card from his Chiropractor. It always had a funny cartoon character on the front holding his back and some little humorous blurb on the inside. Still today, I can picture a little old, frail looking Santa on the cover of a Christmas card, holding his back. These cards were the cutest thing and definitely left an impression with me.
Bottom line, greeting cards can be special or humorous, touching or lighthearted. The only criteria is that they will strike a cord with the person receiving them. If you accomplish that with a card, then you have definitely found the right one for that person.
VoIP pbx
One area of life that technology advancement has shown the greatest improvement is in the field of communication. The rapid improvement computer growth has brought to something as simple as communication is unbelievable. It is amazing to stop and think about the different ways people now contact each other that were not available even fifteen years ago. In the last decade, life has changed greatly because of the Internet. It has proven to be an invaluable tool for all types of communication. It can help anyone from a large business to even just a single person. It is possible for anyone to communicate around the world in an instant. This was not practical for a long time. It could take weeks or months to send a message across the oceans and to other parts of the world. This was very costly and was only available to those with plenty of resources. Times definitely have changed. Even though there is still a large population of people limited in resources, the gap is quickly closing when it comes to communication. Now people can have a conversation halfway across the globe and look at each other. The use of VoIP or voice over ip is an amazing piece of technology. If someone has a computer and the Internet he or she can now reach anyone in the world. It is a small world in the eyes of the technology age. Distance and time are not as large of factors in communication as they once were such a short time ago. It is a little more complicated than just having the Internet, but it does not take a degree in engineering to operate. Software programs are available to convert computers into phones, such as pbx phone systems. The process is easy for even someone who is not the most computer literate. A novice or the most experienced veteran on computer technology can go out and buy a softphone which will then allow him or her to make phone calls on the Internet. The software converts a general purpose computer, like most people have in their homes, into a telephone. From there, a person relies on the basic skills he or she has in using a phone. For the advanced computer user, he or she can further enhance the experience by using unified communications. This occurs by integrating all of the various communication systems into a single environment. It makes the entire process easier.
