Sustainable Agriculture – Food
Systems Option
The Department of Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences
approved this new undergraduate major in the spring of 2005. Students
who want to study agricultural sustainability but find neither the science
track nor the business track suitable have found their way to the new Food
Systems Option.
This option was designed to
help prepare students to pursue careers with non-profit organizations,
educational institutions, community farms, or to work in public
policy. For background on the new major, see “the concept.”
For information on potential employment, please survey the current listing
of “sustainability
jobs”. Like the BDIC
Sustainability Studies major, the Food Systems Option offers students
more flexibility in choice of courses; therefore it also requires a close
working relationship with an academic advisor.
The
requirements for this major are described here (pdf). For more information please contact John Gerber, Professor of Plant
Sciences, or Deborah
Picking, Undergraduate Program Director.
