Juan Manuel Iglesias-Pedraz
-Postdoctoral Fellow-
EMail |
Juan Manuel is studying the regulation of proinflammatory cytokine release from macrophages in response to B. burgdorferi, at the protein level. He is interested in the mechanisms that dictate protein stability and trafficking within the cell. |

Nicolas Navasa
-Postdoctoral Fellow-
EMail |
Nico is addressing the activation of invariant NKT cells in response to B. burgdorferi specifically looking at the antigen presenting capacity of murine macrophages. |

Hooman Izadi
-PhD Student-
EMail |
Hooman is interested in the role of c-Jun-mediated responses to Borrelia burgdorferi by macrophages. He has demonstrated that JNK1 regulates the expression of Toll-like Receptor 1 in phagocytic cells. In complex with TLR-2. TLR-1 are important pattern recognition receptors that interact with lipoproteins of the spirochete, which are major proinflammatory factors. He will defend his thesis during the Spring of 2010.

Kelly Hawley
-PhD Student-
EMail |
Kelly started her graduate work in January, 2009. Her project deals with the in vivo role of p38 MAP kinase during macrophage responses to Borrelia burgdorferi. She is analyzing new lines of transgenic mice that specifically express a dominant negative form of p38 MAPK in macrophages.
Lindsey, an Honors PreVet student is working with Kelly.
