Regarding disorder in the case module:
I heard from Elena Zaretsky in the Communications Disoders Department. I may not have explained the problem very clearly, but she took the stance that, in general this is not considered a disorder. She writes:
It may have to do with acquisition of pronouns and there
are different views on that.
Owens says that it could be an attempt to learn anaphora by children, normal children
use these forms before they begin to internalize the correct use. There
is no reason to suggest that these children are disordered and NO TREATMENT IS
WARRANTED, unless there are other things that a child has difficulties with!
But let's
say, hypothetically, that we assume this "disorder in case module" -
the treatment will be by creating situations in context where the child should
use correct pronoun (in correct case) obligatory, and
by modeling
and immediate feed back an SLP can shape the correct responses.
I don’t know if this is a satisfactory answer to the question asked. If you want to discuss this further, please email me.
