| Brief Description |
This course extends the material of Philosphy 110 (sentential logic, predicate logic) and Philosophy 310 (function logic, identity logic, description logic). It examines the logics of modal qualifiers (‘might’, ‘could', ‘should', etc.) and propositional attitudes (‘believes’, ‘hopes’, ‘fears’, ‘expects’, etc.). Emphasis is placed on quantification, identity, descriptions, and actuality. Optional material may also be presented on second-order logics and plurals. |
