Special Report to the Faculty Senate
Sen. Doc. 99-015

The following motion was passed by unanimous votes at the FSUC&ECC meeting on Nov. 19, 1998 and the TLIT Council meeting on Dec. 10, 1998.

Whereas the Faculty Senate University Computing and  Electronic Communications Committee (FSUC&ECC) and the Teaching, Learning and Informational Technology (TLIT) Council perceive the urgent need for a coordinated high level, long-term, campus-wide planning effort, that would provide direction for all campus instructional technologies; establish campus wide priorities; and coordinate existing and future technologies in support of teaching and learning; be it resolved that the FSUC&ECC  and TLIT Council recommend the Faculty Senate urge the Administration to create a Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) according to the specifications of the American Association of Higher Education (AAHE) in order to achieve the future orderly development and functioning of the campus instructional technology environment.

The rapid growth of technology and pressures for its use in education necessitate careful planning and actions on our campus. Other campuses with similar pressures and limited resources have found the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) an effective tool for development and coordination.  Consequently, the TLT Group, now an affiliate of the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE), has developed a format, operating agenda, and national coordination for these Roundtables.

The TLT Group Guidelines state that "To achieve the best in teaching and learning through more effective use of information technology while controlling costs, a college or university needs continuing communication, cooperation, and collaboration among representatives of a wide range of faculty and academic support services to facilitate better planning, decision-making, and support for faculty and students..."
