(Available at .) 2. Announcements. 3. Old business A. Modifications of a motion for consideration by the Faculty Senate aimed at eliminating the computer account fees? (1) Motion posted by Steve Brewer: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whereas the need for information technology services has become fundamental to the academic enterprise and the current 'optional fee' based funding structure has resulted in: (1) inequities, including that not all students have access to (a) OIT labs (b) OIT course resources provided through WebCT (c) all-campus mailings and announcements (d) online file storage and (2) duplication of effort among University entities, including (a) authentication services for electronic resources (b) email services Be it resolved,... Every member of the University community should have access to OIT services without payment of an 'optional' fee. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (2) Issues raised on the WWW messaging. (a) removal of revenue stream for OIT is not adviseable. (b) not all grad students are covered by GEO contract? (c) are the students paying for everyone else? (d) will a fee for all give as good service as AOL or other service? (e) should service-for-all provide fewer benefits (Email & browser access) and allow paying for addons (searchable WWW site)? (f) are undergraduate student fees the only thorny issue? (g) how do we not appear to be ignoring the revenue stream? (h) it is suggested that this may be viewed as a legitimate fee increase by the Trustees (Brian O'Connor). (i) can we put a statement on neutral funding in the motion? B. What is our appropriate response to the Board of Higher Educations Mandate that all students should have a laptop. (1) Communication with Kenneth W. Burnham, Director of Financial Aid Services. New business A. concerns expressed on behalf of students who have reported an inability to access their OIT email from "home" (Blanchard, Cutting, Powicki) (1) blocking of offcampus telnet access? (2) replace telnet access with ssh from offcampus? (3) adviseability of opening up telnet access? B. Helpdesk support for Win 2000 and Win Me by OIT. C. Family Housing High Speed Data Access (Ed / OIT).
