HOW TO INSTALL MAFTPRO ON A 91-97 3000GT VR4/91-96 STEALTH TT

1.Make sure you have everything to get started

To run speed density you will need the following:

-Maft pro unit + main harness

            -Speed density harness

            -GM 3bar map sensor

            -Maftpro serial cable

            -GM IAT sensor

            -Tuner Pro R/T software CD

2. Additional items you may want to consider

-3M double sided pads or tape to mount the 3bar map sensor (not pictured)

-3” diameter PVC tube for  9” K&N air filter (not pictured)

-Bullet connectors male and female (I bought two packs and pretty much used them all)

            -Zip ties (not pictured)

If you have a Scanmaster 3 and a wideband  -Stereo cable (not mono) with headphone jack at one end and split wire at the other (you can cut the jack off and split the wire yourself)

-Stereo Y connector with one male jack and two female jacks

3. The stereo cable I bought had jacks at both ends so I had to cut the jack off and strip the insulation off the wire (red 5v, silver GND, ignore black)

4. Place connectors on the harnesses and zip tie all the wires together. I used insulated male spade terminals on the pink, blue, black and white wires, everything else used on a 3/s got an insulated male bullet connector, non used wires were cut at the connector

5. Cut the tail off the zip tie  so it looks like this

6. Remove the two carpet panels in the center console, there is a pop rivet up at the firewall and a covered Philips head screw in the center of the panel on both the pass. and drivers side

7. Optional Step: place your floormat on the ground to kneel on

8. Remove the ECU by unbolting the three 10mm bolts that hold it in place (two driver side, one passenger side)

            PASS. SIDE

9. Unclip the ecu and pull it out and place it somewhere safe (now is a good time to check for leaky caps if you have a 91-93)

10. Follow this diagram and wire up the maft pro. Use the provided t-tap connectors on the connections that do not require you to cut the stock wiring, wrap them around the stock ECU wire u wish to tap and close it using a pair of pliers (you should hear a click), plug the insulated male connector into the t-tap (important: make sure the spade goes into the t-tap and not slightly above or below, you should feel a click). Cut the stock wiring as indicated in the diagram and place female bullet connectors (or female spade connectors) on the stock ecu wiring and plug into the male bullet connectors from your maftpro harnesses. (important: after crimping on connectors, give them a slight tug to make sure they won’t fall off)

(91-93)

(94-97)

11 It should look something like this (ignore the blue t-tap connectors, I still had those on there from my emanage install) BTW this is on a 93 stealth TT

12. If you do not have a scanmaster 3 or wideband skip this part. Connect the Y stereo adapter into your wideband analog ouput connector and plug the stereo cable from the scanmaster into one connector and plug the stereo cable with the bare wires into the other. Now connect the bare wire stereo cable to the MAFT pro harness using either bullet connectors, butt connectors, solder +tape etc. The red wire on the stereo cable connects to the orange wire on the 10 pin harness and the silver ground wire connects to the purple wire on the 10 pin harness (as pictured in the diagram from step 10).

13. Put the ECU back into place, plug in the stock ecu harnesses and then bolt it into place

14.. Hide the wiring under the carpet for a clean install

TAKE A BREAK. GRAB A BEER. SIT BACK. RELAX FOR A FEW. TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR CAR AND PAT YOURSELF ON TELL YOURSELF “OH THAT IS A SWEET RIDE YOU MIGHT SAY”

14. Find a location for the GM Idle air temperature sensor….hmmm this looks like a good spot, I run water/methanol injection so I had to install it before the w/m nozzle. Another good place to install the IAT sensor is where I have the Red nylon tube and nozzle going into my Y pipe (my w/m injection tube and nozzle). Mark the spot you wish to install the sensor with an ‘X’, I used a sharpie to mark it.

15. Gather your tools, your going to need:

            -15mm box wrench

            - 1/2 drive drill

            -9/16ths drill bit

-Any thin drill bit (I used a 3/8ths drill bit for a small pilot hole)

            -3/8s NPT tap

optional -Flat head screwdriver and needle nose pliers

16. Drill a pilot hole using a thin drill bit on the spot you marked, then finish up the hole with the larger 9/16ths drill bit

17. Use the flat head screwdriver and needle nose pliers to take out any plastic that is left behind in the hole.

18. Use the 15mm wrench to drive in the Tap (you may need to get it started by hand) (important: if you have a metal Y pipe, use tapping oil so you don’t break the tap) engine oil may work too

19. Drive the tap in, until you either feel a lot of resistance or until you get to the end of the tapping threads

20. Screw in the GM IAT, I did this by hand with some oil on the threads, but you may need to use a wrench or pliers. It should look something like this. Remember to blow out all the shavings inside the Y pipe.

21. Install the Y pipe and the 3” pvc pipe and filter (don’t forget to tighten down those worm gear/t-bolt clamps)

22. Cut off a piece of the double sided tape, place it on the back of the 3bar map sensor and wipe off the area you wish to install it with a damp paper towel

23. Stick the 3bar map sensor in place and connect a vacuum hose that sees boost and vacuum (nipple from plenum or T off the boost gauge vac line)

24. Plug in any connectors, hoses or clamps you may have removed by your own accord, check your work carefully and get back in the car.

25. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (DO NOT START THE CAR) and verify that the maftpro turns on and that the sensors are all functional in the ‘sensor monitor’ menu. (My maftpro did not turn on the first time because the spade terminal on the pink wire (12v) was pushed on top of the t-tap connector instead of going straight into it)

26. Once the unit is working follow the quick setup instructions provided and enjoy. There are some helpful tuning and install hints at this thread. http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=290438&page=1&pp=20
