WiG Newsletter Reviews of the Impromptu Cabaret 1993:
The Great Barrington NPR-affiliate WWIG regretted having to interrupt its regular fund drive for an hour of on-air fall programming: live coverage of the Senate's hearing on health care reform. Croakie Roberts, WWIG specialist for capital affairs (Jeanette Clausen), and Susan Stamburp, who had unfortunately consumed too much of her mother's special cranberry relish (Susan Cocalis), were present to report on a special congressional forum. Nina Tittenberg, legal affairs correspondent, was also invited but had been called away to cover Thomas von Klarenz's lecture tour on the topic: "Splitting Hairs in the Judicial Confirmation Process." The Senate panel, chaired by Senator Bob Peckerwood (Martha Wallach) and consisting of Senators Teddy Kennedick (Dinah Dodds), Diane Fineline (Baarbara Hyams), and Carol Mostly-Black (Margaret Hampton), had invited health-care specialist Dr. Otto Spekulum (Miriam Frank) and the renowned homopath Ms. Westwindgrass (Julie Klassen) to join them in their deliberations. Dr. Ruth Wienheimer, sexologist (Ruth Klueger), was also present. The Senate panel welcomed President Bilious Clinton (Rick McCormick) and his wife Hilarious Sodom Clinton (Sara Paulson), who had come to answer questions from the panel and from the audience. Tipsy Gore (Lisa Roetzel) also made a brief appearance to speak on the mental-health issues occasioned by the music industry and to voice her husband Al's concern as to the effect baby-boomer menopause would have on global warming. The presidential pair and the senators addressed various aspects of health coverage: whether hormone-replacement therapy would be adequately covered, whether there might be a significant link between PMS and completing the dissertation, and whether pets would also be covered under the family plan. Camille Faglia (Katrin Sieg), who happened to be in the audience, also presented a case for the sexual needs of the female academic. Her concerns were taken particularly to heart by Senators Kennedick and Peckerwood, who invited her to join them on the panel. The panel hearing was briefly disrupted by a few unruly female homosexuals, who insisted on legislation for "queers" and "dykes." Since these designations were offensive to all present and not recognized by the congressional lexicographers, their testimony was eventually stricken from the congressional records. The hearing concluded with a duet sung by Mrs. Clinton and Ms. Ragweedgrass: "O Moon o'er Massachusetts/ It's time we said goodbye." With that, Croakie Roberts and Susan Stanburp were free to returm to the stations regular fund-raising program. They promised not to interrupt the fund-raising campaign again until next fall's election coverage. SLC"
