To set up your PRS transmitter properly, you have to do two things.
A. You have to figure out the 6 digit (hexadecimal) ID of your transmitter and let us know it.
B. You have to input your 8 digit UMass Student ID into the memory of the PRS transmitter.
Follow steps A and B below:
A. To find your PRS transmitter identity:
With Radio Frequency PRS transmitter, you need to know the radio ID of the PRS unit, NOT the serial number on the back of the unit. Please follow these steps to determine your radio ID:

1. Turn on your PRS unit by sliding the switch in the lower left of the unit from the "0" position to the "1" position.
2. The display has two lines of text. Once the unit is on, wait a few seconds until you see "Scanning classes" on the top line. When you get to this screen, press the " * " key until you get to the "Setup menu".
3. You should now read "Setup menu" on the top line, and the second line should read "New class scan". (If you do not, try pressing the * button again.) Once at the Setup menu press the down arrow (a triangle with a tip pointing downwards) on the PRS unit. The top of the screen will stay the same but the bottom line will change. Press the down arrow until the bottom line reads "Diagnostics".
4. Once at the "Diagnostics" screen press the enter button (the large green button with an arrow pointing to the right).
5. The top of the screen will now display "Battery = x%" where x is the estimated percentage of battery life left in your unit, underneath this you will see "Radio ID y" where y is your units six digit PRS ID.
Example ID: F7D90E
B. To enter your student ID into your RF PRS transmitter:
1. Turn on your PRS unit by sliding the switch in the lower left of the unit from the "0" position to the "1" position.
2. Once the unit is on wait a few seconds until you see "Scanning classes" on the top of the unit. Once you are at this screen press the "*" key until you see the Setup menu.
3. You should now read "Setup menu" across the top of the PRS display. Once at the Setup menu press the down arrow on the PRS unit until the bottom line reads "ID:" (seven times by my count).
4. Once at the "ID:" screen press the large green enter button.
5. Enter your 8 digit UMass student ID (not your Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Amherst, or Hampshire ID!) using the numeric keypad. Hit the green enter button when you are done.
Now your PRS transmitter is ready to go!
