Godin, G., Valois, P., & Lepage, L. (1993). The pattern of influence of perceived behavioral control upon exercise behavior: An application of Ajzen's theory of planned behavior. Journal of Behavioral Medicine, 16, 81-102.
Studied the theory of planned behavior for the prediction of exercising intentions and behavior among 347 adults from the general population (Study 1) and 136 18-40 yr old pregnant women (Study 2). In both studies, baseline data were collected at home with trained interviewers and with the use of paper-and-pencil questionnaires. The self-report on behavior was obtained 6 mo (Study 1) and between 8 and 9 mo (Study 2) after baseline data collection. In Study 1, perceived behavioral control influenced behavior only through intention. In Study 2, none of the I. Ajzen (published 1980-2988) model variables was associated with exercising behavior. Nonetheless, intention was influenced by attitudes, habit, and perceived behavioral control. ((c) 1998 APA/Correctn, all rights reserved).
